For high school girls, my friend used to show them that Drew Barrymore Cinderella movie and give them the whole feminist rundown. They worshipped her like a goddess afterwards. Gave me dirty looks(as a man) for weeks....

The I showed them Aladdin and the tides turned once again...

I had a group of middle school girls into horror movies. They'd watched loads so I showed them Resident Evil and Blade II. They loved them.

LOL..but I make sure every movie I show 1st years is okay for 12 and under. (X-men is included) 2nd & 3rd years nothing over 15 and under. Last year we studied the movie Stand By Me. Some bad language but nothing that they don't say and some stupid talk about girls. I show it to my boys but don't think the girls would like it.

Boys and girls alike love Princess Bride. (not so much 3rd years) Blade and Predator and Alien movies work best with them.

1st years loved Gremlins and the Ghostbusters movies. 2nd years: Ace Ventura! They have never seen these movies so it was all new to them. Jim Carey is a teen boys hero. Complete a$$ and he gets the girls.

Whale rider great movie for 1st years but the boys tend to lose some interest a bit to much talking...LOL.

I don't usually show movies in class but these kids have been pushing it hard and deserve a break. (me too!) I have tried to teach during this time and it is usually a lost cause. But summer camp is coming up and that is always fun.

I showed Whale Rider a few years ago to Grade 8s back home......we only got 30 min . in and everyone was asleep.....

Has anyone ever seen Holes? or The Mighty Freak. Two great books that are also movies which kids dig.....(no pun intended). I love the Mighty Freak as a book -- a bright light in teen lit which is really in the dark ages......

I have Time Bandits, that might work.....as well as the sure bet Princess Bride.
