|
|
hey,
does anyone know anything about the door swing arm in the pictures below?
my apartment door is a huge heavy metal door and when I open it then walk away it goes SLAM!! and it's so loud and hard that I think it will wreck the building and I'm sure all my neighbors can hear it.
here are 2 pictures. this is my first attempt at posting pictures so I hope it works.
if you can't see the little red sticker on the bottom it says "KDOM"
does anyone know how to tighten this arm up so my door doesn't slam? |

Did u try turning that knob on the underside? Failing that, take a screwdriver to every joint on the thing until you find the tension adjuster or just call your landlady.
Or just leave it. Your neighbours might become suspicious if it's too quiet. Koreans seem to find door-slamming comforting and restful. |

that knob underneath is just a plastic cover for a screw and I did tighten every screw on the thing but no luck.
thanks for your reply but I want to slow down the door closing because I hate the slam. |

Why don't you just close the door quietly behind you? Or is that thinking too far outside the box?

I think that's part of the point of the thingy on the door.
I'm surprised that something would be installed incorrectly in Korea.
The KDOM is a misspelling. It's supposed to be KABOOM. Duh. |

I usually close the door quietly with my hand but sometimes my hands are loaded with things
and sometimes using my foot doesn't work so well |

| Don't screw with it too much, it still has to be able to close itself in a strong wind. |

I can testify that that's not true. I was leaving me apratment the other day and the door slammed. While locking the door, the adjuma next door came out to give out to me. I don't speak Korean so didn't realise what she was talking about until she demonstrated the correct door closing technique. My bad, I've been trying not to slam it since but sometimes I forget. Doesn't matter that I have to listen to her ratty dog barking every time I step outside the door or that she (or her husband) have loud conversations right outside my door at all hours of the morning. |

| The hydraulic softener (the top piston like apparatus) is broken. You need to take it off and go to a door store for a replacement. |

That's why this thread was started. What's wrong? How do I fix it? Obviously the moroon who installed it, installed it incorrectly. Or, if it was installed correctly and is now broken, then the landlord should get on it. This is not like a lightbulb, where it's the tenant's responsibility to replace. |

Is this not a pneumatic damper mechanism? On heavier doors, a hydraulic damper?
I'm not going to look it up nor provide links, either.
But whether it's misaligned or for whatever reason, a sealing/regulating washer seems worn out. Show the landlord or ask the maintenance guy at work.
um.. yeah, what pegpig said. |
