In keeping with the recent tradition of film related threads, what movie music floats your boat? For example, three of my favorites are (in no particular order):
1) the theme from Jaws. Scary stuff, really ratcheted up the tension.
2) the Star Wars theme. Ahh, to be a boy again, running around the back garden with imaginary lightsabre in hand, singlehandedly saving the galaxy....
3) The theme from Chariots of Fire. Man, that still raises the hairs on the back of my neck. Really makes me want to run a race, climb a mountain, open another beer....
so what about you? |

"Unchained Melody" is another favorite. Classic.

Had a date with a guy who "composed music for adult movies" on the side. Never saw him again, as I couldn't look at him with a straight face.
Besides, how many variations of "bow chika bow bow" could there be? |

Ennio Morricone: I have always liked his musical contributions to any movie he has been involved with.
Gyorgy Ligeti: I think the use of his music in "2001" was a landmark.
Oh yeah and another one just popped into my head:
The Funk Brothers: in the documentary about them called "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". These session musicians played on more number one songs than the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, and Elvis combined. Highly recommended film. The list of their songs at the end of the documentary is mindblowing as is the music throughout the film. |

My favorite right now is the music by Emilie Simon for the French film about penguins, La Marche de L'Empereur. Stunning music, perfect for the film.
Other favorites are the scores produced by Mark Mothersbaugh, especially Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, and the Royal Tenenbaums. |
