In a MUSIC store: KOREAN POP COMPLICATIONS

on a coffee mug: ALTHOUGH YOU ARE DULL AND STUPID, YOU ARE MY BEST FRIEND.

on a hotel room door: DO NOT FORGET TO BREAK OUR RULES.

a store name that sells shoes: ATHLETE'S FOOT

I have a feeling this is going to be a good thread...

On a Korean seafood resturant sign:
Boiled guts soups

On a Korean Church in Dong-dae-mun:
Praise the load

Those are just a few I remember off the top of my head, I'm sure I'll think of more.

I once asked a student, "Are you a good swimmer?" The female student replied, "I am only good at doggy style." (instead of "dog paddling")

On several occasions my former boss, instead of saying "things are difficult," would say, "I am so hard, so hard!"

I like how Koreans pronounce "hershey's kisses": "hashish kiss ass."

Also funny are Korean menus. One menu I saw was selling "C-o-c-k" (not "Coke") for 2000 won. It is also possible to buy "bland coffee" (not "blend coffee") at many coffee shops.

Couple of my favorites...

On large backlit sign in front of night club -- Jack and c-o-c-k ---5,000 won (Wonder what it is without the c-o-c-k?) Twisted Evil Apparently you can get rum with your c-o-c-k too!

My favorite sign on hogwan bus...

I Lick English......

Hmmm? Explains the influx of Brits I suppose.... Wink

Great Thread!

I thought that was funny too... but it is actually an international chain. I did a search on the net a few years ago. it looks like they even have branches in north america.

I had a student who one day came to school with a whole new look. I mean she changed her hair color, hair style, and clothing style. I mean it was a complete make over and I must say she did look a lot better. When I saw her again later in the day, instead of asking, "How is my new look?" or "How do I look?", she was thinking of the Korean translation of "ki-bun oht-dea-o?" (sorry my romanization) I guess in this circumstance it could be translated as "How do you feel about my new look?" But it came out as "How about feeling me?" I am too polite for my own good. Shocked

I asked a student "What did you do last night?"........Answer: I boiled my hair. I think what was even funnier is that she realized what she said as soon as it came out of her mouth. She was too embarassed Embarassed

I once asked my students to describe their ideal boyfriend/girlfriend as a writing assignment.

One girl, I am sure, meant to say that her boyfriend should have compatible tastes with her but she spelt "tastes" with an "e" instead of an "a."

Another girl wrote that her boyfriend must be a "vagina"--I think she must have meant "virgin."

And some say spelling doesn't matter. Wink

This is not really a Konglish thing, but anyway......
We recieved an application from a student from Korea at my school in Vancouver a couple years back. I don't know if it was a romanization problem, typo or what, but his name gave as all a hoot.
His name: Bum Chum
If that was really his name, Vancouver is the city for him!!
I could never figure out wether it was a typo or a real Korean name!
Anyone?

Once the dog had some trouble with his ears. So off to the Dong Mool Byong Won (animal hospital) we go. After the vet does a bit of checking and talks to my husband in Korean, my husband says that the dog has TERMITES IN HIS EARS!
I pointed out that it wasn't TERMITES but EARMITES in the dog's ears.
My husband counters with......"Maybe they changed from termites to earmites after thousands and thousands of years of REVOLUTION".
Shocked
