So the title sounds a little metro, but I was wondering at most of the places where you teach, what are you supposed to wear there? I am a guy, so what are guys usually supposed to wear to work? I guess summer and winter included. I know it kind of varies per place, but I am inexperianced so I doubt I'll end up anywhere fancy.

Do a search. It completely varies. You may be teaching kindy in shorts or adults in a full suite.

Ask a foreign teacher at the school. It can depend on where you are working. Or go in a bit overdressed on the first day. You'll either fit right in or look like a guy who didn't know. You can make adjustments the next day.

I avoided the temptation of wearing a shirt and tie at my middle school by not bringing any. I am so very glad I did that, its all about comfort for me. I usually wear a short sleeved golf shirt in the summer with casual pants. Winter brings the long sleeves out and sweaters.

Unless your job states that you need to wear a shirt and tie assume casual is okay.

Smart casual is usually OK for public school and more than enough for hogwans. I was packing up photos to take home and found a bunch from my old hogwan. I can't believe what a bunch of slobs the other foreign teachers and I looked like.

If you're teaching adults do bring some shirts and ties.

The male teachers at my school either wear a shirt, tie, & dress pants or suits. Like everyone else said, it's best to check.

I should have specified that the male teachers at my hagwon wear shirts, ties, dress pants or suits. It really all depends on the location. Be sure to ask, or as others have said, at least go in your first day slightly overdressed.

At my work, they have quite a strict dress code. While they insist on me wearing a thong, I notice a few puzzled looks from the corners of peoples' eyes. I mean, I've been shaving and all. What's their problem?
