I work in an afterschool program. I have recently been sending students home for misbehaving. In my teacher's rules packet, it says if bad behavior persists then you should send them home. I feel a little bad when the child cries after I tell them, but it has cut down behavior related problems by 75%. I have only sent 3 students home. Any great suggestions for alternative punishment?

I was wondering what would be the proper follow up after I send a student home. Should my Korean co-teacher call their parents and explain why they were sent home?
Well, that is my opinion. But, the my co-teacher told me she informed the parents. It just so happened that another teacher overheard her say she didn't inform the parents. The headteacher said that she thinks the parents don't want to hear about how bad their children are. Can I assume all of the calls I asked her to make about misbehaved students have not been done? (Before I started sending them home, this was my only punishment) What should I do about this uncooperative business? |
Bossman is there to talk about discipline issues with parents for good reasons. When parents call, they always want to talk to the head cahoona. The Korean Teacher(s) are wishy washy when it comes to making the calls to the parents. Maybe they don't want to be yelled at by bossman if a student quits after a parent talks to them on the phone. Leave them out of the picture all together. Inform your director about all disciplinary issues in writing, and follow up with him.
OR
You have a co-teacher who told you she informed the parents, another who overheard her say she didn't inform the parents, and the head teacher throwing in her two cents. Everyone isn't on the same page. Hold a meeting with your boss present so everyone can get on the same page. |
