The World Cup of Lacrosse is being held in London Ontario. What caught my attention to it was a picture in the London free press showing fans with a Korean flag. I thought to myself what the hell is Korea doing there? So I went to a couple of games and discovered that there are 21 teams in it. I was amazed that not only Korea but countries like Japan, Germany, Finland and Italy were in it. I can understand teams from other commonwealth countries including Hong Kong and Bermuda because British garrison troops could have transported it from canada to all over the Empire.
But Korea puzzled me as I had never in 9 years of living in Korea, ever heard of a Korean lacrosse team. I did look up the rosters and most of them play in the US University system so that probably explains it.
But the teams to beat are the US, canada and the Iroquois Nation. Lacrosse is a pretty cool sport and it's good to see other countries play it. |
