I see so many people on the site that are posting from the states or canada and etc. and are not actually in the country. Maybe they've/you've been teaching here and/or are interested in this fun/dirty land of hope/despair and simplicity/debauchery and/or complexity/simplicity. Anyhow/anyhoo what('s) gives/happenin? Question...How many of you winners/losers are actually here/not here? An interested/disenchanted soul.

I'm still in K-land, and still planning my escape,
same as I've said for almost 10 years.

Not in Korea. Was there for a while, came back to the States, married a Korean woman, and we go back at least once a year. We're planning to move back for a year or two, but there's NO WAY that I'm teaching again. I'm impressed at anyone that can make a career out of teaching anything, especially ESL.

Dave's was a big help when I was there and I post a couple of times every six months or so these days. I still lurk occasionally.

I try to be encouraging and offer any advice I feel might be helpful.
But are you people sane? Had I found Dave's before arriving, I sure as hell wouldn't have come,
MUCH less made plans in advance to come! How much does life suck where you are??

Well it royally sucks finding a job when you graduate here in the U.S. so I'm going to go abroad for 3 years to learn about different cultures before I go to grad school to study intercultural communications. Korea is one of my pit stops.

I am in Canada. Haven't lived in Korea for years. I try to make that clear when I post, as one time Panthermodern called me out on it.

I don't come to this site very often, but I am at home recovering from surgery and find it therapeutic these days.

I've been in and out of Seoul over the years since I first came to teach in 1989. I stay for 2-4 years and then go somewhere else for a while, but I always seem to come back.

This time I left in January and I just signed a contract for a different uni. I'll be headed back in mid-August, or whenever the people involved can get off their a$$es long enough to send me my paperwork. I'm in Michigan now.

mole: I take it all with a grain of salt. Life is what you make of it anywhere you are. The median age of posters is probably 15 years below mine, they're in a totally different phase of life. A lot of what gets posted here is just immaturity and lack of life experience. Or alcoholism, take your pick.
