|
|
As I pack to head to South Korea, I am very excited, but realize that I will miss my family, my friends, maybe my summer romance, ...and my bookgroup. I saw the thread on here about a book exchange...does this still exist? Where?
Is anyone getting together for an English language bookgroup? Where?
If there isn't one currently running, would anyone be interested in a bookgroup? My US bookgroup reads one novel or biography a month, and frankly, I like the discipline of that. I've also previously been in a Sci-fi bookgroup. I 'll read pretty much anything, as long as it's not racist or sexist.
Thoughts for a newbie on this?

Someone tried to organize one of those at the end of '04. It didn't go. It reminded me of someone trying to herd ants. Anyway, I read a really crap novel because of it.
Try organizing one in the city where you live. |

I would be interested in setting up a bookgroup. what kind of stuff are you interested in? Are you going to be living in Seoul?
Recently I've been reading some Philip larkin, Salman Rushdie, DH Lawrence. At the moment I'm about a quarter of the way through Ulysses. It would be really cool to talk about James Joyce with some other people and see what everyone else makes of it. |

| I was in one in a small town that only had about 20 foreigners. It had about 12 members (pretty good takeup..). I'm sure it'd be easy to start/find one in a bigger city. |

I won't be far from Seoul. I could definitely be open to discussing Joyce, although I haven't attempted him since College. It doesn't have to be all organized, like my bookgroup was here, I just mentioned that as an example. Some flexible book exhanging and book talk over a beer or tea or whatever could be good... |
