I once in awhile use excerpts of Korean historical dramas in the Korean history classes I teach. It really adds to the students' imagination when they can visualize something to go along with what sometimes might seem to them to be dry lecture. I have my Korean students pair up with internationals who don't speak Korean and translate for them; it works quite well. I used 용의 눈물 and 태조 왕건 this past semester.
The problem being, I only started recording 용의 눈물 from around episode 80. I looked around on the Internet for some place to buy the set, but with no luck; as the series is a decade old, I guess it's no longer available. With 태조 왕건, I started from the beginning, so no problem. Has anyone seen the former series for sale?
Also, if you enjoy watching the historical dramas, which ones are your favorites? Besides the two mentioned above, I really enjoyed 불멸의 이순신, 허준, and one from a really long time ago, 삼국기. |

There's a couple of places in Yongsan (전자 랜드) that sell DVDs. I've seen several older TV series that I was unfamiliar with and I've been here for 9+ years so it may be there. I can't remember the titles though, sorry.
Prices on Korean dramas are exhorbitant 60,000 for cheap ones and the price just keeps going up. If only they sold dramas with Korean subtitles I would be so happy. |
