I've finished another set of extra classes for which I am to be paid at the given rate - no problem. But, it's been three weeks now since the end of the classes and still no money. I ask why I haven't been paid and the administration office at my school said it's because two students haven't paid yet. WTF? So if two students owe a total of 70000won, I don't get my money? As far as I'm concerned, I did my job and fulfilled my obligations to teach the class. Now pay me. My job is not collection, just teaching. I asked them to pay me the difference and they refused until the students pay. I'm not waiting all summer to get paid 2 months later.

Is this normal?

No that's not normal at all. They are totally fucking you. Be weary or better yet just start looking for another job. It's probabaly a foreshadowing of worse things to come.

I think they gave you a lame excuse. What school is allowing unpaid students to complete a course? Doesn't make any business sense. I think you should give it until the end of the month, then tell your school that you will go to the labor board. SeoulSista may be right in that it may be a sign that you need to start considering working elsewhere. Good luck.

stop pussyfooting around and demand your money by the end of the day. Stay in the office until you get it. Even if they are cloing up for the day do not leave the office until you get your money. They have it. They just dont want to give it and unless you FORCE them they never will.

I had this several times.I doubt that the Korean teachers have to wait so long.I waited 1 month on two occasions. The money always came though.

Find the teacher thats in charge and put a rocket up them.Money will come soonthereafter.

It has happened many times before. I'm a firm believer in bringing all complaints in writing to the employer. Sitting in the office until they pay you is considered a hinderance to their business, and they could have grounds to dismiss you for that. Bring your complaints in writing to your employer. Have another witness sign the written complaint, and insist your employer sign the written complaint. Before you do that make several photo copies. Your employer will get the point. Indicate in the letter you wish to settle this matter "in house" for mutual benefits as apposed to going to the Labor Board!

I appreciate all your input.

I should have mentioned I'm at a public school in Incheon, so I'm sure I will get the money eventually as it's not through a private school, but... You'd think the public system would be more responsible, but they're not. It also took me and some others up to TEN WEEKS to get reimbursed for our tickets during our home-leaves (as they wouldn't buy them). It was the same situation concerning severance pay.

Maybe a new gig IS in order.
