until I get to Busan?
I really prefer a PC, but I realize I need to get a laptop for Korea. I'm not talking about anything special. I just need something basic to check emails, download porn, watch DVDs, listen to music, etc.
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Buy it in the states because:
(1) It will be cheaper
(2) You will get an English OS without hassle.
Even if you put it on the credit card and pay it off over one or two months it'll still work out cheaper than buying it in Korea and save you the hassle of requesting an English language OS. (And no, getting a Korean OS is not the best way to learn Korean. The computer words aren't even in the dictionary once you learned how to read the alphabet..) |

| I'm facing the same problem. All the advice to me pointed to buying in the states. Me personally, I am waiting until Vista comes out around January or february before I buy my toshiba laptop that hopefully won't overheat. |

Unless you are looking for an excuse to have a laptop, why bother?
For the price of a low end laptop there ($500) you can go to an electronics market (Seoul or Busan) and buy a custom made mid range desktop here. Even a low end desktop here ($300) will have more horsepower than a laptop.
It will have both English windows and the ability to read/write/type in hangul as well.
For the record I have a new, custom made P4D duel core intel CPU @3gHz, 1 gig RAM, 250Gig HDD, DVD burner, 6800 video card, 17' LCD monitor and the total cost was ~ USD$800. |

Yeah, but when I leave I can take the laptop with me. I guess I could take the PC too, but it would be much easier to take the laptop. |

No, a desktop is easy to take home... a local tech ($20 service charge) can put everything but the tower case into a box that is 1/2 the size as of your laptop case and only 10% of it's weight. Get a new tower case when you get home ($35). Only takes about 15 minutes to strip and 30 minutes to reassemble.
So you are basically trying to justify the cost and necessity of having a laptop!!...lol...
Pick your new laptop up stateside.
You don't want a Korean laptop for a multitude of reasons and cost is not the only one. |

seriously its easier to get it before coming to korea....
like the others said that way itll be all in english and easier to use and you wont have to worry about getting the english version (of windows or panther) installed etc etc
you can just buy the adapter (if you need one) at the aiport or any travel store and it works fine (voltage wise) |
