|
|
Hi all,
I just found out it will cost aprox $120.00 CAN to have my documents sent via DHL from my home city in Canada to the ROK. I need to send my documents, the university will also need to send the transcripts asap. The RUSH on the scripts will be more and then there is the courier cost x 2. I am looking at paying out almost $300.00. Yikees!
Is there anyone on board from Canada that recently did the E-Visa thing for cheaper if so PLEASE respond asap?
Thanks!

| Puroletter from Purolator from Regina cost me $49 CAD, total shipping time 3-4 business days. Of course, I sent it yesterday, so there's no guarantee that it will actually show up... it comes with a tracking number and so far everything looks good, but I've never shipped anything to S. Korea before. I'll keep you updated, if you like. |

Are you just talking about the transcripts? If so then I would suggest signing up for an account with Purolator online. Then order your transcripts from the university, make sure you have them seal the envelopes with a university stamp and signature. Supply the university with the Korean address to where you are sending the documents. Then go online and request a pick up from Purolator. It will cost you around $70 CAD to send the documents to Korea. Well that is how much it cost me. It took less than 2 days to arrive.
If you want to do it even cheaper go to your university to pick up your transcripts (making sure they are sealed properly). Then simply send them via Canada Post express. They should get to Korea in less than 8 days.
Do NOT send transcripts through the university, they will charge you an arm and a leg for rush deliveries.
If you are applying for an E-2 visa remember that you must apply for it outside of Korea. So if you are in Canada, you send the documents to a consulate in Canada, NOT to Korea. You should send specific documents to Korea and have specific documents ready for the consulate in your country. For Korea I had to send them: 2 pictures of me, 3 copies of my resume, and 3 signed copies of the contract. Total cost for that was around $2. Courier cost for sending transcripts $70. Application cost at the consulate for processing E2 Visa $65. At the consulate I had to give them 2 passport size photos which cost me around $10. You could do this yourself if you don't mind cutting out photos from a digital camera. Altogether the whole application was pretty expensive, around $147, but no where near $300.
If you do things cheaply, the cost shouldn't be more than $120.
There should be NO reason for rushing things to Korea if you are dealing with a good recruiter/school. Many recruiters or people will tell you otherwise but be very wary of schools that need you to be in Korea "yesterday." That is a very bad sign. BoL.

Get used to the old "hurry up and wait" of the overseas teacher. Just smile . . .
Regular mail often takes only a few more days - but then - sometimes it is worth the money just to get it done. |

As far as I'm concerned, it's also worth it to pay a bit more for a tracking number. Removes the whole fear of "Did they get it? Will they get it? Where the hell are my papers?" from the equation. |

Immigration is remarkably efficient with processing these E2 visas. Just send it via fedex or one of the big courier services. DHL's price is crazy. |

Send it EMS ( international express post [$50]).
If you can live/last for 2 weeks, then simple AIRMAIL. $2.00
Who is paying for it and why the need for the RUSH? |

Yes, Purolator works fine.
I used it a few weeks ago and it cost me about $50. It arrived earlier than the time they said it would. |

I am paying. I don't start classes until the third week in August but want to come over early to chill with friends. I don't want to have to travel over to Japan for a visa so I want to get things wrapped up here asap. |
