| Let's say hypothetically, that you are older: 40+. I know that you can still teach in Korea, but it gets harder to find jobs the older you get, so in which Asian countries is age not an issue? Are there any were age is an advantage? |

In China, it is much less an issue (though I wouldn't say no issue). But the schools with issues are not very good anyways. |

I have a friend teaching in China who is in his early 50's.
There are a few older (I don't know how old) teachers in the public schools here. I think the public schools are a little less likely to care about that then hogwans do. |

Age can be a problem indeed.
But this can be compensated by qualifications and experience when those are relevant to the position you are looking for.
So a 40+ salesman looking for a change of pace will have a much lower chance of finding work than a 40+ teacher looking for work in asia....
Age is an issue with certain employers (some hakwons) but an advantage with other employers if you have the qualifications and credentials they look for. |

Well then marginally is better then not at all right ya ta?
Also...I was pointing out how to reduce the negative effect of age on job hunting here... |

| With the current teacher shortage, you should be able to get something here. |

hmm.. what kind of teaching job?
university jobs and well-qualified are no problem whatsoever if 40+ anywhere in Asia.
if looking for institute-type, entry-level, no experience types of stuff at 40+.. then southeast asia or china would be easier. seems like japan/korea attracts quite a few recent college students who want to pay off school loan debts (therefore not so interested in the SE Asia/China places).. |

| I was 40 when I came to Korea. I taught for 2 years in a Junior College. Then 2 years in a Foreign Language College, I am now finishing my third year in a Private University. This Fall I will begin a new job. I will be an Assistant professor (not lecturer like all my other jobs) in one of Korea's top National Universities. I think experice counts a lot in Korea. And the older I get, the more experience I get, and then as a result, I keep going on to higher positions. |
