| I don't know about 'best', but I have long thought we are on a trajectory to re-create a new version of the middle ages....people defined by religious superstition, given identity by our employer, employer more important than country, highly stratified social organizations....that kind of thing. |

Israel doesn't even really qualify as a country.
They have no constitution (even though they promised to make one when they were given land).
They have never established borders.
A lot of the Zionist WWII history has been shrouded in secrecy, and doesn't get taught in orthodox circles.

Lobbing bombs into neighbourhoods and trying to claim only "soldier" and "terrorist" deaths is more absurd than the precision bomb rhetoric of the Amercian military in Iraq.
Killing innocent people is never good or justified.
And, no, they are are not guilty by association.
Israelites and their opponents will go to hell, some sooner than others, most in ugly deaths.

They tried the non violent route 70 years ago and that didn't turn out real well. This is 1 nation that won't let history repeat itself. Hamas has declared that their goal is to destroy Israel. Hezbollah declared war when they kidnapped Israeli soldiers. Lebanon supplies Hezbollah and gives them sanctuary.
Hezbollah is making a hiuge mistake not returning those soldiers. Israel is very capable of kicking some major butt.
What Israel is doing is justified. |

If Hezbollah captured the Iraeli IDF soldiers, the soldiers were on the Lebanese side of the border. If you send soldiers into another country, then complain about being kidnapped, you are an idiot.
Israel planned to capture the Palestinian government prior to the 'kidnapping' of other IDF soldiers.
If you mean that Israel won't let history repeat itself in that they won't conspire with homicidal maniacs in order to further their agenda, that seems to be happening right now with the cozy relations between Israel and the US.

The difference between you and I is that I don't sprout propaganda as you put it-I tell the truth and as a Jew I know exactly what I am talking about. Believe me, I don't need any history lessons It's part of my culture to understand how to deal with this centuries old hatred for us.

| The theory behind this 'let's destroy Lebanon' approach is that the Lebanese people will blame Hezbollah and not Israel, and then somehow force their government to kick Hezbollah out of southern Lebanon. If you think that's likely then I have a great deal for you on scrap metal from Paris. |

As a Jew, I know what I am talking about . And your attitude is not "jewish". So keep talking out of your own ass. Israel is wrong and against all of its own "intellectual" tradition (please read Hillel on this point and a complete understanding in his interpretations of Halakah which I am sure you are so familiar with....). PS. There are many JEWS around the world who agree with me. Yours is a secular attitude and not a Jewish or religious attitude as Paul Tillich would have labeled you..... I sincerely hope I never find a reason to agree with Hermes, ever. That guy is a freak. But the bolded part here I don't agree with. Being a Jew does not automatically confer complete understanding at all, and can actually cause ignorance of the subject due to emotional ties. I am not saying you are right or wrong, please understand that. I am just saying your reason is not a very good one. |
