Recently, I read a lonely planet publication that ranks Seoul as the second most expensive city in the world. The last time I was in Korea was in 1996 and thought that the prices were pretty reasonable. I was shocked to find that Seoul is the second most expensive city in the world, even more expensive than London. I find this very hard to believe! |

It's factoring in many things that don't apply to us, the biggest being rent. If you spend normally and stay with local products (except electronics) you shouldn't be surprised. Things are either completely comparable to Canada or cheaper, unless you go for imported, Western things. A few things are more expensive, but the basics, food, transportation, etc are cheaper. |

Ok, move to London and compare that to Seoul, and the prices are halved on pretty much everything. Especially subway travel, you would be looking at around 7 pounds (14 dollars) to travel in the rush hour in London. A meal out would be around 15 quid each too.
Seoul is a LOT cheaper. |

These comparisons are usually geared towards bussines visitors and "bank-rolled" ex-pats.
To imagine that Seoul is a more expensive city than London to live in is laughable. |

It's housing. The cost of housing is very high. Everything else, not so much. |

If it's the same report I'm thinking of, the most expensive was Moscow.
I've been to Moscow. The idea that daily expenses there are higher than New York, Tokyo, etc, is laughable, to quote Wangja. |
