|
|
Why doesn't this site regulate the size of avatars and signatures? People obviously can't regulate themselves (which is weird, since 99% of us are teachers who experience firsthand how annoying it is when one or two kids can't follow a few simple rules to make things better for everyone...)
강아지, I always enjoy your posts, but your damn signature photo (and yes it is pretty) is destroying the format of every page you post on. And then there are the people with avatars that take up 35% of the screen width! Can't you see it's too big???? Have you ever heard of photobucket? Resize your damn pictures! Or don't use an avatar at all!
But anyway, my real question is -- can't the site itself regulate avatar and signature size? Any other forum will reject avatars and signatures that are too big -- why can't this one? |

Sorry casey's moon - yes, I know you can resize pictures on various websites, and I had already resized that photo in photoshop. The thing is, my monitor resolution is 1280 x 800, which means table breaking pictures end up looking fine at my end. I'll try not to post anything wider than 600 pixels, just for you.
Edit: Also, you could probably do with setting your monitor to a higher resolution - from the sounds of it you've got it at 640 x 480.

CM,
I would definately not feel bad about bring it up in general though. This morning I recieved a PM from another users who brought up the same concern.
People need to start following the rules in terms of avatar size. The avatars in the signature line are getting out of hand. It's not that hard to resize a picture and post it on photobucket. |

"Block Images from _____.com" in the context menu works for me. Mozilla & block image extension.
I have less of a problem though with photo size than the actual photos.
Jiggling animated boobies and booties, freaky male porn stars, leggy models, any animated avatar--all get blocked by me. I surf at work, and it's just not cool to have some of these avatars showing up on your computer. But it's cool now, takes a few days of "blocking" before you have an image-free screen (other than my own oversized avatar and sig..hehe). |

Your avatar IS blocked to me at the moment and your sig is fine.
Anyway, I'm too dumb to find the context menu on this Korean computer (I'm probably too dumb to figure that out on an English computer too, come to think of it). I still don't get why this site doesn't automatically veto pics that are too big. Maybe I'm just being whiney, but it annoys the heck out of me when I'm reading through a thread about people fleeing the country and I have to scroll left and right and back and forth to read their posts. |

How about animated stick figures doing stuff like setting themselves on fire? I love those avatars- I think they're hilarious. However, not everyone has my sense of humor, and I received a pm about it, so no more violent stick figure avatars- guess I'll stick to dog themes or holiday themes or something (meh, kind-of boring- violent animated stick figures suit me better...^^). Anyway, I almost always have to have stuff re-sized. I ask my co-worker to do it cuz he has photoshop.
There's a guy at my work who has a wallpaper on his comp. of some muscle-bound guy flexing- it's his torso only, and he's oiled-up. I don't mind it, but honestly, I think it's weird for a straight guy to have that on his computer. He's into body-building, but still.... |

I don't think you are being too whiney.
I share the same sentiment. |

It depends.... if you want small pizza your point is valid, but if you want large or x-large pizza your point is invalid. |

I doubt you're too dumb- probably too lazy, like me! My computer learning window expired when I graduated uni. =) How's the type setting on your computer, btw? I think if you have to move the page left or right quite a bit, it could be the type is too large, as well, but yeah, usually it's a too-large avatar or image that's destroying the formatting~ |

Well this thread is fine and so far all the avatars are within the range (you're pushing it pizza boy, but since your photo is appetizing, I'll let it slide ). So I don't think it's my settings.
Personally I don't mind violent stick figure avatars, but I'm not into any realistic gore. (anyone remember Mankind's avatar?) |

| I don't mind peer pressure regulating size. Otis sometimes has HUGE avatars and I flame him for that. If your avatar is so big it distorts screen size, then we need to talk. Ultimately, many browsers allow you to block images by URL so there is a local solution. |

| I do have to point out though that everyone who has posted in this thread (including casey's moon and nambucaveman) has an avatar larger than the size stipulated in 'the rules' (80 x 80). |

Didn't he have an exploding head as his avatar? I also remember an avatar that involved a sledgehammer. The avatar that's grossing me out right now is Pidgin's- the navel-piercing one. I can't bothered to pm him about it, though- I just cover his avatar with my left hand^~
Counting the days, eh, Casey?^^ |
