I made an inquiry about two beers I really like from Quebec. I especially like Eau Benite. It appears they are distributed in Japan. I am looking to see how I am going to get some. I am contacting the fellows. It would be so grand to have an Eau Benite. Any fans out there for either Quebec beer? |

I love Fin du Monde and La Maudite--The quart-sized version available at depanneurs. 1 of those every now and then after a hot, sweaty day.....
Was thrilled to find Unibroue beer here in Colorado! |

Yeah, I really like those beers although I find them quite heavy.....1867 is another great one, and Blanche de Chambly is amazingly refreshing on a hot day like today!!! Have you had Coup de Grisou? Such a nice, unique taste...... |

I might try to make an order of these Quebec beers. Anyone interested in how that turns out or would want to take part in such an order? I contacted Unibroue and a representative is trying to see if she can hook me up with the Japanese distributor. |

What was the other brew in that line-up; Satan brew (Maudite?), or something like that? That stuff is yummy. Chewy, but yummy. |

I guess I was talking about Maudite. And I got my poutine at Rock Poutine in St-Hyachinthe. |

La Maudite ---The Damned. Picture of a devil's head on the label with guys paddling a canoe flying through the air
Drink enough of it and the next day your head will feel like it's in hell. |

I will keep you guys posted about making an order. But does any of you have an address they can be sent to? I don't want the beer sent to work. I am working on getting some order together. Cross your fingers, fellows. And maybe all of us could drink the beer together if we get some order together, eh? |

Best post ever. I'm heading to SK in a couple of months and use Dave's to inform myself on life in Korea. Too often I read posts about people not being happy there and how they can't wait for their contracts to run out. Good to see someone take a more productive approach in making their time in SK better. I'm originally from Quebec and love those beers, hope it works out for you, keep us posted. If it does I'm getting a case of Jockey Club sent in from Newfoundland |

I still haven't heard back yet from the people about the possibility of getting it from Japan. The Japanese haven't contacted me. A Quebec person contacted Japan and so far I haven't got a Yea yet. I would really like a bottle of Eau Benite. If you somehow could get me one even, I would really appreciate it, but I wouldn't want to trouble you. I suppose I could ask one of my friends in Montreal to send me a bottle by mail.
As far as people from Canada or other Western countries not being happy here it really depends. Many people are happy here. There is a mental divide between some people and Korea. It is a cultural divide. It does take some kind of adjustment to learn about foods you never tried and see menus in a language you can't read, you may miss foods you used to eat back home (Seoul doesn't have that problem). I generally find the Korean people to be nice. The women can be quite cute and friendly towards foreigners. You won't get that kind of treatment back home. But, make sure to remember you are still a foreigner here and sometimes a boss where you may work might try to take advantage of your perceived ignorance. Study about the laws of the country when it comes to English teachers, read your contract well and that is all I can say on that score.
By the way, local beer is quite cheep.... A regular beer might cost you

My sister told me the story of that picture. (I hope I'm recalling it correctly.) A group of explorers disappeared in the wilderness. Apparently, the devil got them. So their ghosts are forever paddling throught the forests of Quebec in a phantasmal canoe.
The company makes fantastic beer glasses. They look like cognac glasses, but much larger, and with thicker glass. I carefully brought one back from Canada on my last trip there. It was by far my favorite glass. Then it accidentally broke. I've been crushed ever since. |
