Greetings, all -

Just wanted to let you know, for those who know the guy: Myke Holidaze, who some of you all know as dj, friend, party-promoter (if not the best organizer in the worls, still pulled off Winter Wonderland, and the last 2 An-myon do parties), Nana drinking buddy, comic relief - - - is dying of cancer.

He's been fighting some health issues on & off for awhile now - those that know him, know that he's had bouts of stuff over this past year. Well, finally he got around to seeing a doctor, who found a tumor on his liver. Biopsy came back: liver cancer. For those of you that know about cancer, the next step is to see where it is and isn't.

It's metastized into his endocrine system, and they have put away the option of chemo, instead focusing on pain management. We got the results back yesterday: he has about 1 month left, more or less.

Whatever else you want to say/think about Myke, he definitely got a raw deal on this one. He always TRIED to do good by people, and he's not even 30 years old, for f sakes . . .

If anyone wants the info, to go see him at the hospital, you can contact Venus, Mary, Christina, or myself. Christina & I are leaving on Sunday (but we will be visiting him on Saturday); MARY is the one who could use your spiritual/emotional support.

Myke & Mary are still keeping up with their plans for An-myon on August 18th weekend; I think it will be a fitting tribute - Jin, Joel, and others have wanted to take the good elements from the 2004 party, avoid the screwups from last year, and make this one really shine. I think it will be fitting.

MY REQUEST!!!

I'm not trolling, and I don't want this to be a b~ing/moaning/complaining thread. I just wanted to let some people out there know what is going on.

Take care,

Glen

A friend had just told me about this a few hours before I saw this post. I'm really sorry to hear about this. I hope and pray that Mike will be free of pain and enjoy himself on this earth for as long as possible. Mike's a cool, friendly guy. I met him about a year and a half ago. He made a few opportunities for me in the electro scene, which I still appreciate. I'll try to get out to the Anmyundo party next month. Peace, (Don, efeele)

Damn.

Only met him briefly once at a party or something. That's way too young to go of something like that. It's tragic to hear.

I give him my condolences...

How young was he? I'm starting to worry about my own liver.

Not sure, but Glen (OP) said he's under 30.

Hindsight is 20/20 for sure, but people really should go in every year or two starting in their 20s and check for cancer. It's rare in young people, but not impossible. I was already planning to go in and get checked out in a few months anyway, but this drives the point home.

I wish Mike an easy transition. I appreciate that he booked me for my first dj gig here in Korea in October of 2005. After meeting him that night, I realised he has a lot of energy and optimism that most people will never have. No matter what happens, he will always be in the memory of those who he loved and helped.

1 month. *beep* I hope the docs are wrong about that--they have been before. I know someone who was given 6 months and stuck around for another 3 years! It mystified his doctors.

Make him laugh and keep thinking about the future.

Hmm well I hate to be a doom and gloom writguy but if your liver is toast you are as good as dead, he may well be. I had a Thai buddy a way way strong bike race pal I rode with. He went back to Thailand got the Liver cancer from some Hepatitis in Thailand... he went from monster of power to dead man before I could so much as tell him to stop riding... At least he has the time to settle for here and after as he is doomed. This may sound like a wish on him for bad luck but it is only a reality. Those livers are needful things.

Next to last update, from my end - we're going to see him tonight; seems like he is fading fast (according to doctors/nurses), and had some requests for music, food, Sopranos DVD, etc. NO idea where I'm going to find chicken cordon bleu - maybe hit up one of the hotels? Or maybe Yongsan has it available for delivery???

It turns out it was an early onset, brought on by Hepatitis. He is in Stage 4-5 now; there is a surgeon at Asan who is going to provide a 3rd diagnosis (aggressive surgery, if it is possible - if he is technically 'dead' already, they figure he has nothing really to lose, and it may help the surgical team out later for other cancer patients with what they garner).

Myke's dad, who has been pretty much out of touch for 15 years, has shown up to help out with some things.

Christina is taking a nap, and I'm finishing packing up for our trip. I'll try to report back 1 last time later.

One of my best times with Myke was 4:30 - 6am Sunday morning of Winter Wonderland - just a few of us, trying to clear/fix the downstairs area. He was spinning some loungy-downbeat-Stanley Clarke stuff as the sun came up over the mountains, and we were just chilling, laughing, grooving, cracking jokes. good stuff, that. Wish I had a tape of that one!

Regards,

G.

(ps - I am passing along the messages - thanks for your support, all)

This is a sad thread. The imminent vicitim is far too young.

Can I make a last ditch suggestion? Can someone arrange to get him "essiac"? Its an herbal compound. A quick internet search will bring up testimonials, information, & sources.

I mention this because a Korean friend asked me to get some sent from Canada for his colleague who had been given a month to live with lung cancer. I did so & this man is still alive, 5 years later.

There might be something to it.
