For anyone who's looking for some guidance on these issues, I just came across this manual offered by the Peace Corps for their volunteer teachers: http://www.peacecorps.gov/library/pdf/M0046_tefllarge.pdf Some of its ideas provide a good starting point for anyone thrown in at the deep end without any training.
