i just got hired to teach a group of businessmen twice a week, and they want the class to have a business focus to it. the class will be for an hour and a half twice a week. i'd like to know if anyone can recommend a book that they've enjoyed teaching. one of the guys asked for a book which includes a cd so he could practice at home. i'll head to seoul tomorrow to check out the selection of books available, but as i'm sure there are a lot of them, any recommendations any of you might have might save me some browsing time. thanks. |

i just met them for the first time today. their english level is pretty good from what i could tell. they asked me to slow down a bit, but they were able to tell me about what they wanted from the class, as well as some information about their business and how english would benifit them.
if you're familiar with the 'exploring english' series of books, i'd put them at an easy level five with a possible level six. |

I teach businessmen 'Business English' using Business Venture No 1. It's a very simple book. I make the classes a little bit harder (on the day) with free-talking and lots of 'business' role-plays.
Be aware there is a problem with Business English classes. The students are fully aware who is 'senior' to them and they will show complete respect and deference to the senior person.
So, if you pitch your teaching level higher than the 'President' or Head Honcho, it will be embarrassing for everyone. That's why I use a basic book. That because the older/more senior guys may not have had the expensive English education that the younger executives have had. These classes require a lot of tact. Just my experience. |

I'm not going to recommend a book because I don't know your teaching style. But, you're welcome to check out some of the business links on my site below to get some ideas for supplementary resources. |
