| My wife and I are thinking of bringing our feline friend with us to Korea and just have a few questions. Has anyone out attempted to bring a pet with them for the trip? Is it even possible? I couldn't find much info online about the topic so any insight would be helpful. How are cats viewed in Korea? Do people keep them as pets? |

Koreans won't hate you for having a cat. The other thread and my post there just means that Koreans, in general, don't like them, but that doesn't mean that they will knock down your door to relieve you of your cat. They will respect your decision to have one, of course.
(Your question was so basic, so I assumed that you are moui newbie. Sorry for the tone, otherwise though.) |

When I announced I was getting a kitty it generated curiosity more than anything else. Most people I came across were keen to meet miss kitty and see what she was like.
Unfortunately it turned out I have a pretty bad cat hair allergy and I had to give her away :'( |

It's definitely possible and you should have no problems. No quarantine or anything.
I brought a dog there. As for cats, the more affluent areas cater to them well, so find the good part of town, and Korea, for that matter.
Alley cats abound, so watch your kitty. |

| The kitten I'm adopting is coming from a home that normally has five adult cats. Right now the total number is nine because of the kittens. The owner brought three of them from the US last year and they're already grandparents. There are competent vets here, and I could pass you on to her if you have any questions. PM me if you're interested in case I don't see this thread again. |

| I'm bringing my cat to S Korea (Seoul) end of August when I start my job. The airline (Korean Air) needs a Certificate of Health which is no problem then they have to contact Seoul to get permission beofre they can allow my cat on. I'm just a little concerned about this? Anybody know why? Is there any possibility that she, my cat, won't be allowed on? Any thoughts on this? |

| I once made a kitten attempt suicide in Korea. Swear to God. I'm not sure how long it lived afterward, but I didn't do anything to taunt it. I suppose he just had a difficult time facing the hardships of growing up on the streets. |

dont do it!!!
i love cats so much that there is no way i would bring my one to korea...i left her at home for my family to look after and she gets lots of tlc from them
korean people do not like cats (as a rule) and sometimes cats are treated very very badly here
(but there are some koreans who do like cats)
my advice give your mog to a cat person to have/look after for you

Who cares if most Koreans don't like cats? She is not bringing the feline for them? Anyway, there are enough people who do like cats. I have seen some nice pure-bred cats. I know cat lovers are in the minority over here, but they are still out there. |

| My wife is a member of a Korean internet cafe for cat-lovers. She and a whole bunch of other Koreans spend all day posting cat pictures and commenting. Just because there are fewer of them than in other countries doesn't mean cats are hated. |

granted.....another thing to consider is the journey over.....thats a long way for cats to come
i KNOW that there are cat people over here in korea....i thought it would be useful to have all the info on the cat situation so its not a shock when you get here and see SOME cats with no tails and looking very mangy
i understand that people would want to bring their cat with them but you have to consider the availability of cat food and things like that
on the upside where i am there are many animal hospitals etc and walmart sells cat food and accessories
fyi ...i also never said that cats were hated i just mentioned that SOME people do not LIKE cats
i have also been on the korean cat protection/welfare websites and there are many people here who want to change the cat situation and i am very supportive of those people and their cause
ultimately its their beloved feline and their choice |

| I'd say just contact the airline, and keep written records of all your correspondence. |
