I'm looking forward to this gem of Korean culture...
I hear that there are is a handful of songs that westerners are always "asked" to sing. I know there isn't a formal list, but do you have any suggestions about what songs I should be prepared for? |

ahhh the noraebang
Dont worry about it they like pretty much anything....alot of times its not the quality of the singing but the volume...if you can move to the groove you will be a fav! |

You can pick the songs you want - there is certainly a large list to choose from.
Find a few you like - that fit your voice range and skill level - get a bottle of wine and head down to a local no rae bang and practice them a bit. It's a lot of fun - and you'll have a GREAT time - especially as you get into the second bottle of wine . . . (some places don't like you to bring booze - others won't mind if you are discreet [or is it discrete?])
Once you have a couple "main songs" under your belt you will be more confident singing in small groups. I always enjoyed it. |

All late Beatles' songs (Let It Be, Hey Jude, etc.).
It's not known to many Koreans, but "My Brown Eyed Girl" will usually impress whatever K-girls you're with. |

"Let's Dance" is my trademark. I actually sound like David Bowie when I sing it . Too bad I'm not as cool as him in other regards... |

Ha ha! Thanks for the song ideas.
I've been here in Korea starting 3 years and had my first singing room experience a year ago with adult students in Daegu. I had a blast it was a ritual to go with them once a month.
Another goodie:
"Gangsta's Paradise" - Coolio. The rapping in the song is quite easy.
Any easy Korean songs out there? |

| Good luck finding one of these fabled Noray Bahngs. They are as rare as hen's teeth in this country. |

Dancing Queen by ABBA
How Deep Is Your Love by the Bee Gees
Hotel California by the Eagles
Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas
YMCA by Village People
The thing is, noraebang is lame compared to karaoke BAR, where singers have to do their THANG in front of a bunch of strangers. |
