What are some good ideas you've noticed here? Big or small.

For example, I like the recycling they have at fast food restaurants. One almost feels dirty when you go home just chucking all your fast food waste into one big trash can.

I like how most doors swing both ways. You can push or pull them.

I like the all tile bathrooms with the drain in the floor. I like I can rapidly clean my bathroom by just soaping and hosing it down.

Any other little anti-pet peeves you have about Korea?

I like how they put that tightly woven straw around tree trunks in the fall so that the bugs will nest in the straw. Then they remove the woven straw in the spring and burn the nasty critters and their eggs. Twisted Evil

Yogurt delivery.

I agree with you about the drain in the floor of the bathroom. At first I thought it was idiotic because I have to put on rubber slippers when I re-enter the bathroom, but I sure do like being able to clean my bathroom in just 10 minutes.

One Idea I wish they'd part with is sitting on the floor to eat dinner. This kills my back and my legs go numb. What's wrong with tables and chairs?

Agreed. I went back home for X3 and was shaking my head and the insanity of it all.

I also like the whole "cell phone number in the window" thing.

No one is mentioning the obvious:

Table top barbecue restaurants

Free takeout delivery service, plus they even pick up your dishes for you

No closing time for bars

Cheap, reliable public transport

KTX

Mountain parks with hiking trails everywhere

Ondol heating

Cheap DSL service

1330

Constantly available jobs for English speakers with college degrees! (OK, maybe this is actually a really stupid idea, but it's still one I happen to like Laughing )

Sure, they have lots of bad ideas too, but there are some things that keep me sticking around.

I use a squeegie on the bathroom floor- a few swishes and it is nearly dry!

I love the double seats at the movies- especially when there are few people- it's like having the sofa to myself!

One of the best things here is "service". I had gotten used to all of the freebees at the supermarket, but I was not ready for the mechanic to top off my oil, change my faulty tail light bulbs, and then decline payment- saying "service"!

Korean saunas, how I love thee.

Numbers at banks, instead of lining up. Though judging how line-ups are dealt with elsewhere, it would be chaos without. Still, I like the numbers.

How about simply the fact that they fly us here & house us & pay us more than we need just to nudge the national english project forward?

Interesting initiative & I'm seeing some astounding results. We're just a part of it but I predict an effectively bilingual country within the next 10 years.

Credit to this small crowded intriguing country.
