|
|
| So, I'm attempting to do my first load of laundry in Korea. Naturally the buttons are all labeled in Korean, so I decided to just push things until something happened. This worked at first: the washer filled partially with water and then started agitating the clothes. But then it started to make a little "ding dong ding dong ding dong" sound and refused to move. Try as I might to poke and prod, nothing's going on. So now I have a washer half filled with soapy water staunchly refusing to do it's duty and I haven't the slightest idea why. Could anyone clue me in to what some of the hangul might mean? Maybe just some of the most basic common laundry instructions to get me moving again? Any help would be most appreciated; all of my underwear is in there, so unless this resolves soon, I'm going to be going commando at work tomorrow... |

| Got any friendly neighbors? I'd suggest knocking on a door and begging for help in your situation. |

| That sound usually means error of some kind. Try turning it off and then on again and then push the same buttons you did before. (that method used to work for me) |

Ack! Quite the dilemma. It may actually be broken. The symbols on the buttons and lights on the display should be fairly self-explanatory.
Mine konked out once, and the repair, which lasted a day or two, cost more than replacing the dam thing.
EDIT: try rebalancing the load, and close the lid.

Maybe it's set to soak for a time?
How long has it been? |

I don't think it's soaking. It definitely sounds like an error message of some sort, I just can't figure out why! Now I've gotten to the point where, if I push some buttons, it will make the little happy start noise again, but after a few moment of painful lurching, it goes back to the error signal...
I've only seen my next door neighbors once and their reaction to the new foreigner was a bit chilly, so I'd like to avoid bugging them for help. But I suppose it may have to be a last resort... I think I'm going to run out and see if I can find a Korean to English dictionary. |

| Dammit, it's Sunday and nothing's open. So, no dictionary. Come on, someone has to know enough Korean to generate a short list of Hangul to English laundry terms! Some kind soul? Anyone? |

| Do you have a digital camera? If so, take a picture of the console, post it here (put it on Photobucket first), and I'll be happy to translate for you. |

Have you got a camera, can you take some pics and post some picturs?
Right now it is too abstract... we don't know your machine or the sound it is making...
Pictures, clear ones, would help. |

I can't help you specifically, except to say that my old washing machine used to do the same thing. I think I recall powering it off and then on again, starting a new course as if it was starting for the first time.....and it fortunately recognized that there was already water and didn't fill itself too full.
On Monday take a handwritten list into your school, with the names of all of the buttons and lights so that they can write for you what is what.
I don't have hangeul on my keyboard otherwise I would write some of the common ones out for you! Sorry and good luck! |

Great idea with the photos. The first three are just the control panel area up close from left to right. The last one is the little error message that flashes along with the "ding dong" noise.

| Well it says that you opened it and for some odd reason it is set to "blanket". |

| The lid being open would explain a lot. If this happens in the future, though, do a check on the drain pipe. The machine will give you an error message if it can't drain properly (as mine did last winter when the water in the drain pipe froze). |
