typhoons are here, probably bringing the only chance for waves on the peninsula. anybody know any spots where the waves might just maybe break? i know of some places in busan, kwangalli, but perhaps there're other breaks out there. geoje-do? jeju-do? who's goin' surfing? |

Dude, the best I've seen in Korea are ankle snappers. If you find a hot spot tel us about it and I'll be there. |

I have done some body surfing off of the southside of Jeju. Waves about 5 to 6 feet. Not great, but good enough.
Go when the wind is up, because otherwise there are no waves at all. |

right on. i'm newly transplanted to geoje-do and the other day i saw some korean dude strapping a board to his car. this is a rare sight in this part of the world. in broken korean/english i asked where he was going. he said the north side of the island. spent all day looking for this mysterious break to no avail. maybe it's secret. there's gotta be waves out there... |

From what I have read and heard, Japan and Tawain has good surfing. I think you are in the wrong country if that's your passion. |

beauty pic, mithridates, that's what i like to see. surfing certainly is my passion, though i'm in no way a good surfer. still learnin'. and that's the reason i live in korea: to save money to go to wicked surf spots around the globe. oh, and, er, to explore the workings of a society/culture not my own. have been here for a few years, looking, waiting, usually biding my time until the next adventure. but no waves. and then, like i said, i saw some korean dude full of stoke strappin' a board to his car. so i appeal to you: if anyone knows anything, cough it up. i'm sure your spot where you're the only one out in the water won't be ruined by a few fellow friends.
and then we can drink soju and listen to korean reggae after a session. |

The 2 spots in Busan are Haeundae and Songjeong Beaches. It's not everyday, though. You have to check the weather- usually when a typhoon around. There's a place on Songjeong that rents boards.
I prefer it there because I'm still a beginner. The better surfers seem to prefer Haeundae.
Warning- if you are surfing Haeundae, be careful of your bag/stuff on the beach. My friend had his stuff ripped off while he was out in the water. There seem to be a few bums and lowlifes around there. Seongjong isn't really like this. |

The problem with typhoons is while they do pick up the waves, they become very sloppy and rough...unrideable basically...
A good typhoon swell is when it is sitting about 500 km off shore but with the speed that typhoons travel toward Korea the window of opportunity would be very short...
Go over to Japan, surfing is a lot better there, surfing here is terrible |

surf in japan is the pick of north asia. i surf every weekend and now on vacation about 3-4 times a week. this week went out sunday, tues, wed, thurs. was good too.
never saw anything of note in korea. it's not located in the most ideal position geographically to get waves. can you imagine koreans in the surf? seeing them drive, and being a surfer, i'm extrememly thankful koreans don't surf!! |
