I sometimes check this board for anything interesting, and always see people being accused of being a "Troll". So what's that all about then? Give me some examples. I can't keep up with half these internet terms.

Well, if you're from Michigan, it's anyone who lives in the Lower Peninsula (below the Mackinac Bridge) Laughing However, in the case of discussion boards, it refers to someone who brings up a subject they figure will get a (frequently heated) discussion going. Usually, the subject is not brought up sincerely, but only to create discord. You can think of it like trolling for fish, but in this case it's trolling for reaction.

The two previous posters are lying through their teeth.

A "troll" is a Muslim-hating Canadian who regularly enjoys bosintang, or dog meat soup, with his friends at dinner parties where they all talk about how fat white women are. (But he also doesn't know what to do if a Korean girl touches him "down there").

They usually have blogs.

If you look around on the "Internets" a bit, you might be able to find a definition.

I know people define troll in relation to dropping a baited hook off the back of a boat to see what they can catch... But I still think the best analogy is the monster under the bridge, waiting for the unsuspecting billy goat to wander by so he can pounce. I think the reason I prefer the latter is that (fishing) trollers are kind of passive.

Flotsam, you forgot an important trait of the troll: Trolls also sit on websites such as 'Daves ESL Cafe' 24/7, for the simple reason that they don't have a social life away from the computer.

Ring any bells?
