Where can I get saffron threads or even powder? I go to the market by What the Book all the time, and I never see any. Also where can I get rose water? Same thing.
I don't have a credit card, so I'll have to buy it in Korea. Any suggestions? |

hannam market would be one....the other one is the one up by the UN compound(name escapes me at the moment)
The one by the UN compound has a larger selection of spices and hard to come by stuff.
Hope this helps |

Its near Itaewon...sorry I cant remember but I'm sure someone will come on with better instructions(about a 5000 won cabride if I remember correctly)
The supermarket by the compound has a great selection of spices(fresh and dried) so they might even have saffron. |

Saffron is available at Hannam Market, but it is very expensive indeed.
I may be wrong but I think the UN compound is between the Itaewon and Noksapyeong subway stations, near where Suji's has recently relocated.
Saffron is obscenely expensive in Korea, don't buy it here. |

It's in that little corner with Suji's? Wow that's close. Near the Phillipines Embassy right? Saffron is expensive everywhere that's not India, and I think it would be cheaper here than buying a ticket to India just to buy saffron threads. |

Saffron is known to be one of the most expensive spices anyway. |

I checked the Hannam website and they don't list saffron in the spice section.
I'd say, if you're desperate and you can't find it anywhere, patronize a good middle eastern restaurant a couple of times, introduce yourself to the owner, then ask him to score some for you! Costly, I know, but if you HAVE to have it...
Marakech (spelling?) at the foot of the Itaewon stretch, across from the Puma shop would be a good place to start I would think. The owner Mustaffa has always been really friendly to us. |
