hey,
I'm looking for a nice first class first world resort with a lot of amenities in the south east area of asia.
I'm hoping to find a nice place to relax that has some fun things to do so we won't have to leave the area out of boredom.
I'm hoping to find a place that is not too far from Korea and not too expensive for the end of august/beginning of september.
I hope I am not asking the impossible.
thanks in advance for your help |

Your time frame is still within the rainy season in south east asia AND you have a conflicting objective. You want "world class" and cheap? These are almost mutually exclusive.
Maybe a better way to give you an idea is:
World class
Cheap
Fun
You can have 2 out of 3.
World class and cheap is not fun.
World class and fun is not cheap.
Cheap and fun can go together just fine but NOT in a world class facility.
Shangrila, Plantation Bay or the Hilton resorts in Cebu, all are 5* resorts that I have enjoyed. 5 hour flight. cost is about $100 per day per person inclusive.
Lots of them in HongKong. 5* hotels close to everything. Yup, not resorts buy in the ballpark. 5 hour flight.
Shangrila in Beijing. 90 minute flight.
Japan Disneyland maybe if you are into that kind of stuff. 2 hour flight.
There are a few on Hainan (Chinese version of a tropical paradise). 6 hour flight.
There are a few nice (not 5*) resorts in Phuket and Phi Phi, Thailand. 6 hour flight.
Bali can be fun.
Boracay is a blast (but not 5*. 3-4 at best. ) This can also be done nicely on a budget. |

Amanpuri on Phuket - a world class resort. In fact, no sign on the road to the resort. If you didn't know where it was - you'd never find it.

Price - no problem for wealthy Korea TEFLers . . . VERY nice villa - view of the sea for only US$856 - sorry, doesn't include breakfast. Tis the cheapest of the villas - if you want the best one US$1373 per night.
Just as nice - and brand spanking new is Trisara - stunning views of the sea from your infinity pool . . . from US$500-1500 a night depending on which villa you want.
Or - the classic standby - The Banyan Tree Resort at US$460 to US$1500
Enjoy![/img] |

Especially note the discounted rates for low season. Extremely good value for money. I highly recommend it. |

Next month I am staying at the Damai Beach Holiday Inn just outside Kuching, Malaysia on the island of Borneo. We chose this area because the city is supposed to be fantastic for seeing local culture and there are a number of amazing sounding national parks in the area, great beaches and an urangutang refuge. We found the hotel on line and are staying there for 8 nights for $500 US. I can't vouch just yet but I'm pretty excited. |

Next to Amanpuri (and considerably cheaper) is the Kata Thani resort, and they have heavy discounts during the off season (i.e. now).

Kata Thani is on Kata Noi Beach - about 15 kilometers from the Amanpuri - which sits on the headland between Surin and Bang Tao Beaches. You might be thinking of the Chedi - which is right next to the Amanpuri. The Chedi too is quite nice.
The Kata Thani also - I agree - is a very nice place.
I thought "ed" was asking for FIRST class! SO - for fun - I went six star. |

"Next to" being relative in my mind... I think next to because it was the next place I when leavbing Kata Thani for a drive around the island... but sure it could have been the Chedi. I'm not up on my resorts, but I was surprised that I was able to afford the Kata Thani... the perks of teaching in Korea! |

To me, the better jobs in Korea, are some of the best TEFL jobs in the world.
Certainly my years in Korea have nicely feathered my nest.
Next time you are near the Kata Thani - or the Chedi - the first few rounds are on me. Ya hear me? |

I agree with Bulsajo on Kata Thani resort.
If you want to spend less. This place would not meet your criteria as a first class first world resort but is it really nice and a great value at about $34usd if you Stay 7 nights, you pay only for 5 nights (so less than $25 per night for a 7 night stay).
