|
|
Hyundai (현대): modern
Samsung (삼성): three stars
Kia (기아): rising from Asia (maybe that's wrong... 起亞 is hanja)
Daewoo (대우): big universe
Hanjin (한진): Advancing Korea (again, maybe wrong.. 韓進)
Sansu: (산수): Mountain water
Anyone know what Daelim (대림) means?
Any other major companies I missed? Probably... |

I always thought Kia was an acronym. Like "Korean something automotive" or something like that. |

Hehe yeah that's what I always think of too, but is it really that? Great forest? What the hell does that have to do with making motorcycles and such? |

LG does have the meaning of Lucky Goldstar, but that is a more recent version. The company originally was 락희화학공업사 (the first part sounds alot like lucky) a chemical company and 금성(GuemSung or Gold Star) electronics. Later on they change it to Lucky Goldstar and then to Just LG. Officially LG doesn't stand for Lucky Goldstar it is just the name of the company. GS also broke off of LG.
SK is (대한석유공사) basically it was an oil/energy company. |
