|
|
I've read the tips and hints in the FAQ about taking visa runs to Osaka, etc, but I'm hoping I can avoid that and combine my run with a vacation to Southeast Asia I'm planning with my girlfriend.
We're pretty open about where we go, but we'd ideally like somewhere relatively small on the coast. So while going to somewhere like Bangkok would be great in terms of convenience for the embassy, it's not at all what we want for a vacation. However if there's an embassy in a big city that's a reasonable bus or train ride to a smaller coastal place, that may be a decent solution too.
If anyone has any ideas on good places to go that combine beaches and a Korean consulate, please let me know! |

If you do the Philippines you can catch the flight from here in the evening going to Manila.
Next morning drop your passport off at the embassy.
Catch an afternoon flight to Boracay and party the holiday away on the beach OR if you want smaller crowds to Tagbilarn (Bohol Island - Alona Beach).
Alona beach is smaller, quieter, close to a city with amenities (Tagbilarn) and quite affordable. There is a nice beach, decent resorts at a reasonable cost ($25 per night for a room including american style breakfast). http://www.bohol.ph/ .
You can also catch a flight to Cebu (large city but nice resorts on Mactan island where the airport is located), Surigao, Camiguin, or Palawan.
Pick up your passport on the way home. |

Just some advice, you might want to check-in to your motel/hotel/hostel/whatever before dropping off your passport. I went to Taiwan and the hotel wanted my passport to get a room. Eventually I managed to check-in, but it would have just been much smoother if I had checked-in before getting the passport processed. |

It is the annual event that foreigners have to do when you change your work visa from one employer to another.
Under current Korean immigration laws you must get your visa from a consulate OUTSIDE the country. So when you need a new visa you do a "visa run" - run to another country and get your new visa. |

go to Thailand, it'll take a day to get your visa then enjoy the land of smiles
but like what above said, get checked in before you get the visa, they all want to see your passport |

Have you thought about Guam?
It is an island with good beaches and an easy to get to Korean consulate. |

I did the Philippines trip with my husband and it was great. You don't actually have to have your passport with you to fly in-country, so we took a flight to the Visayas and relaxed on the beaches and went diving.
Thailand would be nice, too--both are about the same price for food/hotel, etc. |

Thanks to all the answers so far, especially the bit about checking in before dropping off the passport. Simple thing I probably would have overlooked.
Of course, any more suggestions are welcome. |
