Ok been reading about this company Yes Youngdo. Has anyone heard of the company how reliable are they? I'm interested in the Suji Branch. Any info on what it has been like working there would be great! People are saying they fire teachers right before the year is up. If so does anyone know any reliable schools?
Thanks.

The chain has a bad reputation but individual schools can vary. Check with current and/or past staff members. Check with MORE THAN ONE staff member.
It is a franchise chain and each school is individually owned, operated and mismanaged. |

I did a YES contract and I lasted the full 12 months. Got paid out and all of that stuff. I did notice a few things about the scene:
1) If you're not a "team" player, you're gonna have a long year.
2) If you get sick and it takes a while to treat the illness (more than 72 hours), you're suspect in management's eyes and it's gonna be a long year.
Personally, I have an issue with a program that relies so much on essay writing and has very little emphasis on continuous in-classroom development of the other 3 basic skills of the language. I remember essay marking at YES - up to 100 essays per class in some cases. And it felt like I was just smashing my cabbage-sized head into a wall.
If you really want to work there, do your homework and make the decision for yourself. It's not a bad gig, but there are better out there. |

Actually, Young-do is NOT a chain franchise, but rather it is owned by one couple who have their head office in Seoul. Therefore, you don't have to deal with the BS that goes with some of the actual franchises. That was a huge selling point for me as I didn't want a horrible experience like the ones that have been discussed about with regards to Wonderland, CDI, Reading Town, ect where there is no way to know until you really get there.
My experience here has been fine. I do agree with the amount of writing, but their focus is different from other hagwons, and it's what the parents are paying for, so that's cool. I don't know about Suji as I don't work there, but my branch is pretty cool. Great apartments and a pretty liberal Manager, one of the few women managers in the company. Good luck and make sure you do your homework so you aren't blind-sided. |

| YES makes their teachers work 8 hour days until 10 pm. Some make think this is ok, but, I'd rather not work that late. |
