|
|
Good Day,
I have searched everywhere in these forums for an answer to this question. This topic is mentioned and some useful information given but not a concrete answer. I have lived in Korea for 4 years where I met my Korean wife. We are living in Canada at the moment, but some of her family members are having some health issues and we would like to return to Korea to help out. I cannot obtain an E-2 visa because I have not finished University yet, however I would like to teach English. Is it possible to do this with just the F-2 visa. From the post Rylek and I believe Alex Hubba (or something like that) made, it appears that it is possible depending on the immigration official you speak with.
Any help would greatly be appreciated and thank in advance. |

You can get an F-2 VISA which would be a spousal VISA, but you would still need an E-2 status in order to teach and that is impossible without a 4 year Bachelor's Degree. I'm wondering if you could do some acting or other kinds of work. Good question. |

Thanks for the reply!
I heard that you need an E2 visa to teach, but also heard that the F2 entitles you to teach as well, because your spouse is sponsoring you. The E2 is also set up because the school must sponsor you, but the F2 isn't in that category. I've even had different immigration officers state 2 different things.. I'm wondering if I should just go and try my luck with different immigration departments.
Thanks again! |

Please allow me to elucidate.
-You qualify for an F2 (spouse of a Korean citizen) visa.
-You can work on an F2.
-You cannot LEGALLY work as a teacher because you are NOT qualified (no degree-just like at home - you need a degree to be a teacher).
-You CAN do personal tutoring. This is both profitable and flies under the radar. It is NOT technically teaching and hence you do not need a degree but you should be registered with the local education office (which does require a degree) and pay taxes.
Typically, no-one cares if the F2 holder does personals. Like I said. It flies under the radar of officials
-You may find a hakwon who is willing to take you on as a teacher cause they are desperate and you are 1) available and 2) don't need a visa. |

Thank you so much for your responses.
This is unfortunate because I would like to work legally (pay taxes etc). I mean, immigration doesn't seem to be very clear about this.
What if I were to work at a hagwon then? If I told them that I was, what would they do? What if they say no? I would fall under the Korean penal system would I not as I have the F2 visa? Are there any major consequences?
I wish they would just say... go ahead.. have at er..
I do thank you for your responses.. it is helping me out.
Cheers. |

If you told who ?
-If you are on an F2. Immigration doesn't give a rats axx. Don't say anything. None of their business.
-If you are NOT on an F2 and you get caught then your axx is grass and there are lots of lawnmowers to watch out for.
There are lots of desperate hakwons who would be willing to hire an unqualified teacher since they can't get a qualified one.
The only people who care will be the education office (they will cause trouble for the hakwon / not you) and the parents if they find out (cause they paid big bucks and didn't get what they were paying for). |

F2 visa holders no longer need a work visa (E2) to teach English or other jobs, actually.
The law changed almost a year ago now. |

Wow Tzechuk!
That's great news! Do you know of an article or some information somewhere that states this? I heard that the law changed but have yet to see some documentation about it. Thanks so much for that as it is great news. If you have time, could you let me know where I could find an article or something that states that change of law?
Thanks so much.
Cheers. |

Just do a search here on Dave's. It's been discussed again and again - in the job forum. |
