I'm no Johnny Sunday School, but the July 25 government advertisement on page 3 of The Korea Herald for a Korea that prizes purity was laughable irony. The front page of the very same newspaper talked of pardons for major players in recent Korean business scandals. On the second page facing the advertisement, there were two more stories of scandals and indecent behavior. These scandals were followed by a story of an army officer detained for sexual harassment right next to the striking image of a pure white vase symbolizing a pure Korea in the advertisement.

If current news is any indication, Korea seems to be synonymous with corruption, and the current trend seems to lean toward the situation worsening rather than getting better. The corruption is seen in the highest echelons of Korean society and then trickles down to all areas of society.
