Hint - How do Black Folk treat Black Folk?
They murder each other at an alarming rate.
Quote: |
Yet there is another kind of killing that receives far less attention as a distinct historical phenomenon. I am referring to the staggering number of homicides that have taken place in the United States since the 1960s--particularly black-on-black homicides. Even though the national crime rate has been declining for some time, it has been a grim period in the Washington area for those most vulnerable to crime. On July 30, Prince Georges County, on the border of Washington, D.C. recorded its one-hundredth homicide of the year, an increase of almost 25 percent compared to this time last year. Meanwhile, Washington recorded a record number of juvenile homicides last year with 24 victims. Ninety-six percent of homicide victims in Washington, D.C. were African American. Historical trends over the past four decades suggest that the great majority were the victims of black-on-black crime. All of which led District Police Chief Charles Ramsey to speak out against "black-on-black crime" as one of the greatest tragedies in the city several months ago: "The African-American community has to be central in the solution because that is where the problem lies and that is the community being hurt the most by this genocide," he said. "You've got generations of dysfunction, and that cycle has got to be broken."

Generally most Koreans who don't like foreigners have the politeness not to talk to us. Except sometimes when they get wasted. Then again, the Koreans who don't mind foreigners also stay pretty aloof. |

Foreigners Experience Difficulties in Living in Korea
However, the living conditions for foreigners residing in Korea are extremely terrible, which is not compatible with the "globalization era."...
An official in the International Cooperation Division of Seoul City admitted, "The same complaints regarding visas, transportation, education, and environment are raised every year without being solved, due to the lack of cooperation from government agencies involved and their passive attitudes."

Letter to the editor: Respect foreign workers
... there was no reason to respect the rights of foreign workers. Besides this kind of ill-treatment, foreign workers often face other kinds of discrimination. Their working hours and wages could be examples. Most factories are likely to give more work to foreign workers than to Korean workers, but the foreign workers' wages are much lower.

[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR] Giving foreigners here a hard time
For instance, I have been turned away by galbi restaurant owners at the door. "No miguk (America)!" they say...

For Housing Rentals, Foreigners Easy Victims
Foreign residents in Seoul are preferred over any Korean tenant by their landlords because they are paying several times as much as what Koreans are paying for their rent, realtors and industry sources say.

Ex-pats Describe Korea's Culture of Corruption

Chinese students face local woes
Higher prices for goods and language courses that fall far below their expectations are two of the disappointments, according to a recent poll of Chinese students by the JoongAng Ilbo and a China-based institute. In addition, 30 percent of respondents pointed out that the visa issuance process was the most irksome annoyance.... "But every time we visit the Immigration Bureau to renew our visas, we are treated like criminals."

Foreign women here can find marriage frightening
By law, foreigners who marry Korean citizens are eligible to apply for citizenship here after two years of marriage, but they also must have their partner's consent.... "We've seen a foreign woman with a child who's lived with her husband for five years, but he still won't agree to sign it."

Arrests made over poisoned Thai workers
A Seoul newspaper reported last week that as many as 11 young workers from Thailand and China suffered severe nerve damage after working with hexane in an unprotected job environment.... They were told to leave the country by the company without treatment or monetary compensation. The shelter brought them back to Korea yesterday for medical treatment.
