Ya... unless you are preparing for a bike marathon or the Tour de France you are asking for / expecting a lot.
In the summer of 2002 a friend and myself biked from Mokpo to Busan. It was a long haul but very worth it.
Great plan but choose either the ride to Mokpo (take your time and smell the flowers) or go to Jeju and then bike for a week.
There is enough to do on either trip to fill a week. Doing both in a week is not doing either justice and is just an exercise in exercise.

Ditto with the too much biking for one week. I took 4 days to bike around Jeju Island alone! This would be a better trip I think. Fly to Jeju, rent bike. Bike around Island (stop at Udo?). Go swimming, climb Halla. Relax, enjoy life. |

I agree with the others, likely pushing it to ride that far. I biked Jeju island as well, I believe I went for 9 days with the first and last day just hanging out in jeju city. I also spent two nights in seogwipo and the rest scatered around the island on my journey.
It rained everyday off and on so be prepared for that.
Have fun, I really liked Seogwipo, I preferred it to JEJU city. |

sup guys...thanks for the input...i did a little looking into the distance from here to mokpo and it isn't more than 215km from daejeon. that doesn't seem to be all that far...some 50 miles/day X 2 days, and you're there. anyhow, i am still thinking about biking out to mokpo and if it gets to be too much...then the bus will take me wherever i need to go....oh yeah, no problems taking a bicycle on a ferry eh? |

hello all.....I just wanted to let you guys who said one week was not enough time to bike from daejeon to mokpo, take a ferry down to jeju, and bike around the island, to know that one week is definitely sufficient time. I left Daejeon on a Saturday morning at 9:30AM and arrived in Mokpo at 12:30PM on Sunday afternoon. I caught a ferry at 3PM Sunday and biked around the whole island taking in the sights in 3 days, leaving Jeju Thursday morning. I did the coastal route on Jeju, so if you want to do the interior as well, then you may want to add a day or so to your plans. My advice to anyone who is planning a bike trip during the summer is to MAKE SURE YOU USE LOTS OF SUNSCREEN, AND WEAR A HAT. Feel free to PM me if you need any details on bike routes or anything else, and I will be happy to try to answer any questions that you may have.
Cheers.
oh yeah, a valuable tip....don't attempt to ride a bike on the interstate. You will be ordered off the highway. No major problems with the cops, it's just not permitted here. |
