Don't you just hate the times you are sitting around your apt minding your own business on a sweltering summer evening and your mom calls with the news that one of your favorite nephews has just been dumped by his wife and she may take the 3 kids and move off to Chicago with her new boyfriend and here you are, stuck on the other side of the world?
Sometimes, the ex-pat life ain't all that good. |

Sickening irresponsible westerners. Doesn't she know she's married? A korean would never do that. Why couldn't she just have a bit on the side without wrecking the whole marriage? Dear dear.
Umm yatahboy..is that really you? Are you sure its you?, because we don't know if its really you or your online persona. |

At the very least, it's not a death. Having a family member die while being stuck in Korea is the highest level of feeling helpless.
My sympathies to you and your family regardless. |

Yeah, I got some bad news this week from my family, too. It's hard being so far away. On the other hand, even if I were back home, there is nothing I could do, so I guess it's a psychological thing. |

Found out the person I love the most on this earth had a "minor" stroke the last week.
I kept it together until I called her and she started telling me about the spots on her brain after the scan, and how she doesn't "have any lasting effects from it". Goddam. Haven't cried like that in a long, long time.
Spent the best part of that night wishing I could be a little boy in her arms again. Here I am.. wouldn't even make it to her funeral in time, I bet.
It is a bad part of living abroad. |

I'm sorry. I hope all works out for the best.
Not a week goes by that I think, "anytime now, one of my grandparents is going to move on." I cringe at the very thought of me not being there for my family.
Over the past few years, my family has really taken a "look up to Ralph" roll. Realizing this has made me want to return home and take care of them. Instincts maybe? I have seen them do this with my Uncle; I guess they are passing the torch on. Talk about unwanted responsibilities. What's one to do.
Good luck my anonymitous friend. |

I have an E-7 now with a large chain hagwon which I like more than the E-2. Too make a long story short, we have emergency leave built-in as we don't have to worry about teaching schedules, it's all 9-6 work. Plus we have 10 vacation days and national holidays. The only down side is no company-wide summer vacation period due to the students. |
