Hi

What is the most appropriate way of going about getting Business English teaching positions within big name companies?

Are people just sending off cover letters with resume without responding to vacanies or are you limiting yourself to publications in the Times and the Herald?

Need some help to get started!

I'm hoping when you are talking about teaching business English, you actually know something about business.
Contrary to popular belief, you do not just replace the sentence 'the book is on the table' with 'the stapler is on the photocopier'.
Teaching business English requires a working knowledge of how businesses work for it to be effective. Businessmen want to know more than just the language. They want to know how businesses in the West operate, etc.
Sorry if that's what you are actually able to do, but having a degree in Business & Management, I get a little narky when people swan in thinking they know it all.

Thanks mate - I can't agree more!

I actually am qualified in the area with amongst other things an undergrad in Economics and post grad studies in Business Administration/Industrial Relations plus 15 years experience in Australia and the UK.

Would appreciate it (if you have any suggestions) if you could drop me a line at [email protected] - such as perhaps names of the sort of companies that might take on full time teachers in business English in Cheongju.

Most companies cannot hire full time teachers... or part time for that matter. It is illegal as they cannot sponsor your visa (thus why I asked my original question).

Captain Corea is correct to a certain extent in that companies cannot hire teachers/trainers full-time or part-time due to visa restrictions.

In order to do so, the company must register with the Provincial/Municipal Ministry of Education as a Training Centre. This involves a lot of paperwork and planning which the HR managers aren't willing to go through. So, in order to bypass the system, the companies can hire foreigners who are on F2-1, F4 or F5 visas. Most of the larger companies will only deal with agents that supply teachers as they need the invoices to come from a registered business to keep tax records clean.

Tammie or Mike, I sent you a PM. Check your mailbox. If you do decide to use an agent, please don't use Nova Education (in Cheongju) as she is known to use illegal teachers thus exposing the teacher & the company to legal problems which she will never disclose to either party. (Mods, I have witnessed this myself and have other witnesses plus statements from former illegal teachers using Nova's services).
