| I'd like to be able to say that I stepped foot in N.Korea. But is it possible? |

there are certain places you can go like geumgangsan. i'm not sure how it works, but a few teachers from my school went there last month.
as well, there's some travel agent in beijing that specializes in getting westerners into NK, even pyeongyang.
all i know is that both options are very pricey. the stuff is easily googled. |

| A colleague of mine left on a two-week trip to NK yesterday, with a big portion of it slated to be in Pyongyang. With recent events, there has been some doubt as to whether the tour will get anywhere past Beijing. It will be interesting to see how it went when he gets back. |

I'm planning a trip for next year. I have been studying the DPRK or the past few years and would really like to see (what I can) with my own eyes.
Someone just going there (and giving a fair share to the regime) just to say they've been there, well... it sounds a little lame to me. Why not just go to Panmunjeom and plant your foot over then? |

The owner and tour operator, Park Seok Jin is a good guy and he has run a few trips to Keumgangsan this year. The clientelle are predominantly Western so language is not a problem either. |

Take the DMZ tour through the USO (Camp Kim).
You get to visit a building on the border where they have meetings. You acutally get to stand in part of the building that is technically North Korea. A ROK soldier stands guard at the door in case NK soldiers decided to storm in, its very surreal and a great photo op.
FYI before the tour you have to sign a waiver stating they are not liable for anything that happens to you during the visit. |

| There are quite a few tours to be had, but if your an American, the door is pretty much closed. Im going with Koryo Tours next year. They have a good reputation, and have been going for years. http://www.koryogroup.com/ |

OP- if you choose to visit a place like North Korea- knock yourself out. But if something bad happens when you are there, you have no one to blame but yourself. You're taking a big risk just to be able to say you set foot there.

i think that the chances of you getting f'ed with in NK are minimal. from what i've read, foreigners/westerners are kept on a ridiculously short leash there, so the chances of any shenanigans are more likely in SK. |

| It will also depend on your nationality. Canadians, Brits (or other Commonwealth folk) stand a better chance of getting in than do Americans, for obvious reasons. Something to consider before you plunk down the money, only to find out you can't get past Beijing. |
