Does anyone know of any animal shelters in southern S.Korea, preferably close to Yeosu?
Also, has anyone had an experience adopting a pet from the Daegu shelter? Any info would be appreciated.

I'm not sure where Yeosu is but there's another facility north of Seoul, in Yangju, where you can adopt animals. I think the address is www.karama.or.kr. And there's a guy on these boards called Davyteacher, who organizes volunteer days at a bunch of other places ... mostly in the southern or southwestern part of the country, I think.

Also, there's a group called KARA (www.withanimal.net), which may have animals in foster care waiting for permanent homes.

Best of luck.

I've adopted 2 cats from the Daegu shelter (KAPS). It is located by the Daemyeong subway stop. I'd call ahead to let them know you are coming if you plan to drop by the shelter, as the main office isn't always staffed. The number is on their homepage somewhere.

The shelter has many healthy and adoptable dogs and cats. I recommend the facility to anyone serious about adopting a pet, or to anyone who rescues an abandoned dog or cat and is unable to keep it.

Thanks for the reply. I tried calling the shelter but the person couldn't speak English. So I will ask here; just wondering if there is a fee for adopting at the Daegu shelter? Also, are they open Saturdays? And I will be taking the animal home to Yeosu on the bus; but are pets allowed on the bus? Also, does the Daegu shelter do fostering? I wouldn't mind fostering a second pet. Thanks!

it's free to adopt, but the lady who runs the place wants you to commit to neutering before you leave the shelter.

i think it's more expensive to neuter a female (i think). i was there a few weeks back.

she doesn't speak any english, but once you're there she'll dial her vet friend who does.

Sunnan Kum speaks some English ... maybe her English skills aren't quite strong enough for an adoption interview, but I'm sure she'll talk to you.

Yes, of course you'll have to spay or neuter -- no decent shelter would adopt animals out unaltered.
