They want a deposit on my room and I have nothing to give them so they're holding my passport... lame... I sent money to my US account so I could use my ATM card abroad... lame lame lame...
Plus my room stinks (literally and quality-wise the shower knobs came off in my hands, the room stinks of mold, etc.), I am paying more than I would be paying for a better accomodation in Seoul or Busan.
I just asked the attendant how to get to Phuket, he said he couldn't help me until 9am... he was just sitting there... what's up with that?
My money is nonrefundable but this place blows... I want to get out of Bangkok. |

That blows, thats my nightmare. Sometimes I have this idea of sending $100.00 into Western Union just in case I need it for emergencies. You are having an adventure. Take the opportunity to grow. |

I could be way off the mark here but usually I find that for advice getting from A to B, travel agents are quite useful. You are in Khao San Road, no doubt? Walk around a bit - there are about 200 or so in the near vicinity. |

Where are you, man...?? if you're in KS don't expect anything in the way of service. If you're up around Sukhumvit there definitely are better places to be had, far friendlier thais in the tourist industry around this area.
Me and a buddy are headed out to Nana tonight if you're interested. Possibly even the legendary Eden Club f I can get some rest and build some "stamina" in the next couple of hours. 5 or 6 red bulls should see me right. Leave a message here if you're interested and I'll give you my friend's cell phone number.
I'll be online as long as I can keep getting a wireless signal in my hotel room.
Likewise if you're really strapped for $ for the time being I can spot you 100 bucks or so for the time being and you can get it back to me in ROK. It sucks to be in SE Asia and broke. |

If you are in the Khao San Road area for gods sake get out! Dont walk, run! I guess for a certain age group KS has an appeal. Make the scene for a night out if you must. However, IMHO it is the worst foreigner ghetto in the city. |

When I was in Ko Sumui there were little marts everywhere that would take your credit card and charge you something and give you cash for a 5% fee. You might want to look for that in Bangkok. |

I managed to get cash out of the ATM by choosing "Cash Advance", to my knowledge my debit card doesn't have that function, anyway it worked, hopefully it doesn't bite me in the a*** later.
My hotel in Bangkok just blew huge chunks. I didn't plan at all so I guess it's totally my fault. I used the counter at the airport, wrongly believing they were honest and they put in some place that reeked of mould... as a plus they included a free personalized tour, which was the oldest guy there trying to take me on a tour of tailors and brothels, which when he found I wasn't interested in either, became a one way tour and I had to pay the $30 cab ride back to the hotel. ha ha ha...
I was a soldier in Korea in '95-'96, I thought the Koreans around the military bases were out for your money.... holy holy crap, they got nothing on the Thai, especially in Bangkok... every cabdriver can hook you up with so many deals that you don't want... it's ridiculous.
But, as I hope I mentioned, I am in Phuket now and it rocks greatly. I got a deal on a room someone cancelled and now I can finally relax.
When I go back to Bangkok to do my visa b.s. all of you other posters are welcome to look me up, if you're still around... PM me or something.

I agree with that. Sukhumivit is a good location to be based out of - near the Sky Train and subway stations and, of course, Nana Entertainment Plaza |

I dont want to add insult to injury however, you can take a legit metered taxi from end to end of Bangkok proper and it would be less than $6.
Keep a heads up in Phuket as well. The local drivers are every bit as greedy as those in Bangkok. |

Yeah they scammed me fat there... ass*oles.
I am leery now. Every corner I turn it's just some cat trying to steal my hard earned won... not cool. I would rather just as soon hand them money then deal with the emotional depletion of there covert hustling a.k.a. begging... |

If you keep this in mind, I think you will be fine. Also beware of nicely dressed young people who approach you and tell you they are a student who would like to practice their English with a foreigner. It is just a prelude to a scam. Thais outside of a commercial setting are cool.
FYI, Bangkok is tame for this type of behavior compared to Hanoi.
Good luck and enjoy. |
