I don't know about anyone else but I'm astonished by all the negativity on these boards. I read posts here frequently and it just makes me sick sometimes to read some of the idiotic and hateful things that are said. About other posters, about life in Korea, about life in Canada and America, how stupid everyone is, trashing apologists, trashing people not satisfied with life here, trashing people that enjoy it here, trashing the food, trashing the culture, trashing Canadians, trashing Americans.........it's just ridiculous. I rarely post, or give an opinion here because I know it will rarely net me any positive discussion, or something interesting to read. I know a certain amount of negativity in peoples lives is universal........but wow it just blows my socks off on this forum. Anybody else care to comment on this?? Am I crazy?

You think so?

Then you really would've been pissed two years ago!

Most of the rabidly miscontent expats have fled to other digital pastures.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you... but dude, this is the Internet, it isn't real, it's just a place to dick off.

Personally, only reason I come here is to stir shit up and pee in everyones Cheerios. But take anything literally? Hell, if I had done that I never would have come to Korea in the first place, and even if I did I would have been looking for the angel of death the second I got off the plane.

Doubtless n3ptne is right, at least in part. He (she?) says he does it deliberately. It is clear that some other posters also just come in to see if they can get a reaction. Don't know why. My guess...poor toilet training.

Not so long ago, someone called Dave's "Culture Shock Central" or something similar. I think there's a lot of truth to that observation. Lepers can be in denial until their nose falls off. Lots of people with culture shock never wake up to it, but it explains a lot about the atmosphere here.

Then there is the 'freaky waygook factor'. A fair share of the people are dysfunctional and Dave's give them a forum to display that without getting the crap beat out of them like they did in high school. They take a certain pride in being the village idiot.

The negativity has been worse. It has been better.

I am often too negative. I know this..but I can't help it. Sometimes the truth is negative and it sucks.

It's only as negative as you make it, and feel it.

But never forget Korean is most definitely a funky place and somepeople just can't handle that.

This is in response to Spinoza's love-it-or-leave-it message.
To an extent, I share Cape Breton Canadian's inhibitions.
A few weeks ago, I was suffering from a personal problem.
I considered discussing it on this forum, but then I reconsidered.

However, this is the perfect arena for fighting when I want to fight.
Any more Creationists out there?

It's about the type of person attracted to an expat message board. But I like it, it's very democratic. You can't legislate how people feel. Either roll with it or move on, but one thing to definitely remember, you can cross verbal swords with people on here for the sake of getting something out, or a mental workout, but you won't ever change anyone's mind on an internet forum. In fact I don't think you will in real life either. Adults unfortunately basically have thier minds made up. Arguing about stuff is basically a pissing contest or a verbal workout.

I actually take the opposite point of view and you've done nothing to pursuade me otherwise. Very Happy

i think it would be more accurate that they were either banned or were tired of the censorship over here than to say they fled.

Jack the Cat, Korea is never a place that would classify as funky.

Funky implies a certain degree of the 'cool factor' and that should come from both sexes.

Korean males are not cool, period.

Korean females, well thats up for debate....

However, Japan on the other hand - now that place is funky>

I've heard that said tons here to people that have negative things to say about Korea. I presume you're saying this tongue in cheek?
