| I doubt that anything really has any addictive characteristics. Its more in the personality of the addict. Ive tried smoking, never got adicted. Drank plenty of alcohol, never had any problems avoiding it, infact I dont drink anymore. Tried weed, never got even a bit addictive. No cravings for it. |

Why not go cold turkey? My old man did it and had no problems. |

Coz as a two pack a day man with an extremely low tollerance for other's bullshit I'd end up doing 25-life for bludgeoning the first Korean middle school kids who say 'hello' and run off laughing post withdrawal. |

I made a post ages ago about giving up and I did for awhile. Sorry to say I am back on the smokes. Is it a filthy digusting habit? Yes it is. But damn, I do enjoy a smoke after a good feed or sitting in a pub having a good conversation and a pint.
I think the hardest time for me is when we have our bi-monthly poker game. When 180,000 won down, it's kind of hard not too. Then again when you're 300,000 won up its also hard not too. In fact when you have a glass of Beam and a staight flush it's hard not too.
I've done cold turkey before and had no problems. But I think the gradual way might be the way this time.
jaganath69 congrat BTW. |

Although those awful nicotine withdrawal symptoms occur immediately (might as well say...) after the last smoke, it's also reassuring to know that your body's healing process begins immediately as well - within hours carbon monoxide levels in one's bloodstream returns to normal, circulation improves, energy levels increase, etc... Eventually, of course, your lungs will begin to repair themselves...
Knowing these things certainly doesn't make it any easier in the beginning. If you can get through the first few weeks smoke free, not only do the cravings become less and less, but it's also reassuring to know that your body is trying to heal itself - a good deterrant at that point, I guess...
I am, howver, a filthty smoker... 11 years... Quit twice before, but it didn't last - I do enjoy a good smoke. I guess I didn't want to (or have to) give them up completely... Nicotine patches, if you think you'll need them, do really help reduce cravings... |
