Anybody go to the DJ Shadow show last night? I really wanted to go, but decided to mess around with some sounds with friends for free, rather than seeing Shadow with all his skills and great equipment.
I saw DJ Shadow in Osaka soon after his Private Press album came out. It was awesome. His equipment looked like heavy duty machinery. Very powerful. Very good visuals, too. In-tune and in-sync.
If you did see the show, were there visuals to go with it, too? How many people were there? What sort of crowd?
Since this sort of thing doesn't usually come to Seoul, I'm curious.

I'm a big fan but was actually a little let down by the show. Ok maybe not the show but the atmposhpere. To be fair it was a Tuesday night but even so it was pretty lame. The show itslef was pretty good, great visuals and a mix of classic tracks from Entroducing and new material. In my opinion the show never really got going. The venue Seoul AX was ok but not full, never a good sign, and the only way to get a drink was to pay 20,000W for a pass to the free bar which is the dumbest thing i have ever come across.
His new album sounded ok the best track was about hurricane Katrina and was pretty political. He had a British singer who came out and played a couple of tracks right in the middle of the set which really was a big mistake.
The classic stuff was great and was worth the money just to see him play it live. I just kept thinking if this was in London or New York on any big city in the West the whole atmosphere would have been so so so much better. Still I'm glad i went. I just wish Koreans would open up a bit more to decent music and then the atmosphere at these type of shows will improve.
Just my two cents.

I saw him at Brixton Academy about 3 years ago, and have to say he was pretty awesome. I would have loved to have gone to AX but really couldn't afford it as I figured it would be a pretty expensive night. Who was the British singer??

British Singer: (I'm) Chris James (Bitch)

Night on the whole: Yeah i liked that he dropped some Entroducing tracks and that Lateef hyped up the crowd and all but i think there was something missing.. I seen Lateef perform with Blackalicious back in Australia, they were really something. The sound system was great though, top notch. I've never seen anyone work 4 decks before- that was crazy. But the crowd wasn't really responding to his sorta style so that mos def put it down a lil bit... Speaking of Mos Def, he did a tour with him i think last week in other parts of the globe ie Australia. If he came maybe the numbers woulda gone up a bit..

In general in seoul I find that DJ gigs are terrible. Especially ones put on at the Walker Hill (either woo bar or in the hall in the basement) My main beef has to be the koreans who stand right in front of the stage and take pictures. I mean they just STAND there. No dancing nothing...why did u come to see the DJ??? Also they drinks are way over priced there...10,000won for a cass!

Here's hoping the outdoor rave this weekend is better....

I thought the show was pretty good except for that British vocalist he had he was more suited to singing in a Leeds indie band!1
The 2nd vocalist Lateef didnt catch the rest of his name was AWESOME! He got people hyped and stuff.
The visuals were amazing really gelled with the music.

The crowd was interesting outside it looked like u could have been a5t a fashion show looking at some of the korean girls.
Venue was Ok it wasn't walker hill havent been there for a show i dont know why they choose these out of the way sterile places. Sound system was ok.
Dj shadow was quite humble i tough which was cool nt arrogant at all glad eh played 6 days and stuff off Entroducing worth it just to hear these tracks live.
i liked Bush drowning vid and Shadow waving goodbye to him classic!!
