Anyone have advice?
PCI Soundblaster Audigy 2 card.
Computer won't power on with the card plugged in.
Otherwise it is a new machine with fresh Windows install running fine.
I have 4 PCI slots - does it matter where I plug in?
Thanks. |

No. If the card is a PCI card, then it wouldn't matter which PCI slot you place it in. If your PC is not turning on, try switching the card to another PCI slot. That particular slot may be shot and shorting your board.
Try switching it to different slots then booting it then let us know what happens. |

Won't power on? Are you sure? It won't even get through the POST?
No beeps?
I don't know if that's indicative of faulty h/w or an IRQ conflict... try a different slot.
Does your motherboard have an onboard soundcard?
If so, have you disabled it before installing the Soundblaster card? |

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I had a pci modem that would halt my boot cycle. Actually, to be more accurate, it prevented my boot cycle. When I powered on the machine, the fans would start up, etc, but no boot. When I removed it everything was fine. In actual fact the problem wasn't with my modem at all, but with my power supply. I found out that my power supply was underpowered, even though it was the one rated for my motherboard. It couldn't supply enough power to run all the cards I had and still spark the bios and cpu. Just a thought. |
