Why do you want to be such a cowboy and report these teachers. Does it effect your paycheck? Is it effecting your work enviroment? Are they preventing you from finding a good job? If the answer to these questions is no then mind your own business. They are just like you and I in the fact they saw an oppurtunity to make money and they took it. I have met many of good people out here who have all sorts of part time work like teaching privates and working at other schools while working under contract. I myself wouldn't do it but that has to do with the risk of being fined and deported not because I believe it is wrong. If this is because you are just not getting along with your coworkers or something personal to that matter then deal with it in other ways or go to another school. Also, if your doing it to make extra cash (And I'm sure that has a lot to do with it) then what makes you any better than say a shaddy recruiter or other scum bags who are in this industry. Do the right thing and have some compassion and just let them be and move on. Twisted Evil

Calling Immigration would be a good thing to do! Turn them all in, and that will blow bossman's cover. The shady operation will come to an end as we know it today.

Here, here, Jurrasic. Well bloody said. Stop being such a nosy s.o.b, wylsie, and get on with your job. Jees... how old are you? It's like kindergarten 'round here sometimes. Bet you were the kinda kid who told on other kids if they kissed girls behind the school canteen, just because YOU couldn't get any...

I think it could be interesting...he calls in his tip...immigration swoops in...it turns out all his co-workers actually do have bonafied degrees....he ends up looking like a total jackass....and either gets canned or spends the rest of the year in an atmosphere of utter hatred and disgust.

OR

Some people might be here without bonafied degrees and in the course of the bust his boss ends up having to close the school....he doesnt get paid....ends up having to scramble to find another job.

OR

His boss fires him for calling in the tip.....might not be too hard to figure out just who might have called in that tip.

I would ask the question: Just how does ratting on a bunch of foreigners benefit you? If it doesnt......then why do it?.....not to mention that one or more might be avid Daves readers and be following this thread.....that could lead to the asskicking of the century!

Yeah, it sounds like a good idea to pull the handle and flush that whole toilet bowl. Of course you'd better hold your breath tight 'cause you might have been squeaky clean when you jumped in, but you're in that pool of sludge, too. When you flush it, you could go swirling down with the rest of them.

You should at least get out of the toilet before you flush it.

Actually, I don't mean to insult you with my analogy, but you've gotta know that what you're suggesting is a bad idea for you, given that you still work there.

Nice balanced advice here, guys. Anyone ever thought of the possibility that his co-workers just don't like him? If anybody has been following the OP's history at his hogwan, you'd already know that the foreign teachers there were already not interested in meeting with him to help resolve his salary dispute. They're probably looking at all the commotion thats been going on with his employment and keeping their distance from persona non grata.

When hogwan owners are accused of or are actually guilty of illegal practices, everyone wants them punished and/or shut down. Yet when a couple of wayguks may be guilty of blatant degree fraud, the OP should bury his head in the sand to cover his own butt, right? WRONG. Sounds like the culture of look-the-other-way corruption and cover your *** mentality has infected the expats here too! If you condone fraud by someone like yourselves, on what basis do you condemn it in the Korean owners? Fraud is fraud no matter what your nationality.
Did you ever think that one reason we have to jump through so many hoops to certify our legitimate credentials and get our visas is because there are too many would-be teachers faking degrees and experience? Obviously, if he reports the school to immigration, all hell may break loose. Maybe they are legal. Or, maybe immigration already knows they aren't but has been paid off. The OP takes risks getting inolved, but t doesn't necessarily mean he should look the other way.

So if someone might not like you and is not interested in engaging in conversation about their life back home, that suddenly becomes fodder for accusing them of fraud and reporting them to immigration? Sounds like McCarthyism has infected the expats here too.

Only one poster has actually answered the question. Thank you to that poster.

BTW, I've posted more than one thread about my workplace. Please, read them all before spouting off nonsense.

Which poster answered your question? You asked 'How do I...?" and everyone answered as if you said 'Should I...' I don't see any explicit instructions on who to call at Immigration to do the deed. Unless you were being wishywashy and really meant 'Should I...'

I'm sorry that you don't like to hear devil's advocate perspectives. Next time you start a thread, make sure to mention to everyone that you'd only like to hear what you want to hear.

Actually, according to him, he was fired last week. And as much as everyone here gives Immigration a hard time about not being on the ball, I'm sure anyone receiving the tip-off at Immigration about his ex-coworkers, will find his termination noteworthy and likely attribute the claim as him just being jaded and scorned.

OP:"My co-workers at XYZ school are working illegally"
Immi:"How do you know?"
OP:"They won't talk to me in detail about their educational past"
Immi:"I see...and are you currently employed there?"
OP:"No, I was fired last week"
Immi:"I see....(jots down note to remind Kwangsoo that he forgot to throw in money for the kalguksu)

I say tell on them. Why do some people think they are better than everyone else and that they have a right to earn more money illegally, either on the side of their contracts, or even worse, with a fake degree? Two teachers were busted at one of my past schools for having a fake degree. Why did they think they were better than the rest of us with ACTUAL degrees? They were not. You can thank those folks for immi cracking down on everyone else.
