Korea Will Be Developed Country in 10 Years, 99% Say
Almost all of South Koreans are positive that the country will become a developed nation within ten years, a survey has shown.... Of the respondents, 49 percent voiced optimism over Korea becoming a developed nation in 7-10 years. Twenty-six percent said it will take five years, 20 percent seven years and 3 percent 3 years.

Oh, this drives me crazy with my students. Korea is developed for chrissakes. Megapass, bravo your life, look at how you handled that Katrina mess you savages, developed.

The only reason any Korean says the country still isn't developed is that the older generation was led to believe that "developed" would mean "dominant", or at least "damn-well dominant over Japan and equal in influence and affluence to the West, dammit".

Sad this, because it means that Koreans will never fully take in or appreciate the modern strength of their country and its people(and the actual impact on, and appreciation for, the country that visitors have here). The light will forever remain at the end of the tunnel with nobody noticing they are actually looking up from the bottom of a well.

It's considered to be a developing nation, looking for advanced nation status. So much of this country is still very third world, in particular their agriculture. Smile

Is this tongue in cheek, or idiotic?

No, no, no. You aren't getting a ride on this one you rogue.

American and Canada have got the same shyte going on at many points from sea to shining sea.

Yes, the development is uneven--Korea and the U.S. are very similar in these stats--but Seoul and other urban centers are advanced and you ain't pulling this one off cleanly. Nuh-uh.

P.S.: Katrina.

Letter to the editor: Respect foreign workers
... there was no reason to respect the rights of foreign workers. Besides this kind of ill-treatment, foreign workers often face other kinds of discrimination. Their working hours and wages could be examples. Most factories are likely to give more work to foreign workers than to Korean workers, but the foreign workers' wages are much lower.

All right now smarty. I am willing to engage in a discussion with the raised end of a ping-pong table, under the condition that you manage to at least reference what you consider a reasonable definition for "developed". You are all over the place here.

Chop-chop.

Korea is a developed nation. Taiwan is a developping nation.

In the true sense of the word, every nation is developing.

I think there are many catagories that could be recognized as developed.
(IT, Heavy Industries, Broadband, Hospital care, ect...)
They might be missing out on a few important ones though.
(food safety, driving rules, construction enforcement, zoning, ect..)

Sure, sure. But how many countries have all the bases covered is my point. And how long is the stick by which we are measuring this? And who is holding it? And whose thumb is setting the standard...?

"Developped" isn't the right word. Depends on how you look at it.

Live in Taiwan and then come back here and you choose what developped or developping means.

It should be a squatters per capita deal.

While squatters are not as frequent here as in Taiwan, many places here don't even have a bathroom.

I would classifiy Korean as developing, for sure.

Having said that, I live in downtown Toronto, the biggest city in Canada, the jewel in the crown of the developed world. Yesterday was so hot, the whole of downtown had a blackout. Toronto just plain ran out of power.

It was kind of embarassing.
