Anyone able to tell me where I can get info (in english) on the insects in Korea?
There's 3 in particular that are driving me crazy. They're up in the trees and loud as hell right now.
At least I assume they're bugs. One might be a bird.
Also I have bugs in my dorm... they're long, have lots of legs, but they're grey and black and their tails look like it should be their heads... |

The loud ones, which can unbelievably hit 100db, are cicadas.
For a couple of pictures/more info on them (from last year), click here.
Some more info I've collected on Jeju nature, including insects (most, if not all, of which can be found on the mainland), spiders, snakes, and such can be found here. |

I can't tell you about the latter, but as gdimension said, the loud ones are cicadas. They thrive in North America, Asia, and Australia. One of my European friends didn't know about them before she came here. They spend most of their lives underground. Some North American species live underground for 17 years before emerging to make a lot of noise! They're big and loud but harmless. |

Yea I knew about those ones... they're a different breed cuz the noise is just a little different than where i'm from.
There are actually 2 other ones that are LOUDER than those buggers.
they don't have constant sounds... more broken up.
Those are the ones who drive me crazy. |
