Hi, I did a search but couldn't find that much recent info. What Korean bank has ATM cards that would work in Canada. I want to get one to send to my parents in Canada so they can make withdrawls for me. Thanks. |

Good luck but you will be hard pressed to find any.
If it were at all possible, Koreans will abuse the feature into the extreme to get money out of the country so its a no go. |

You have no idea what you are talking about. Koreans can get international ATM cards, its just us evil money laundering foreigners who are not allowed to have them. |

Still, i am quit aware that koreans have limits to how much money they can take abroad.
I was not aware fo the fact that the rules are even more strict for foreigners. |

Hmmm...there has to be at least one bank that has a card you can use in another country. Anyone? Anyone with something helpful to tell me?
Kookmin bank used to...is that the case still? |

I got a Korean Credit card but it had to be secured (ie I had to deposit a huge amount of money to get 90% credit).
No big deal, I understand they don't know my credit history and they're protecting their butts from former loser foreigners.
However, if I make money here legally (for over a year and work in their public school system), how can they say I can't withdraw funds outside Korea?
It's my money and I should be able to do with it as I please.
Imagine this practice happening in Canada! It wouldn't happen.
I guess it's not racist as it applies to every foreigner, so I guess it's xenophopia at least but still unacceplable practice for a country which is on the Global Market and has the 11th highest production in the world.
It really makes me mad. |

Fine Bank has international cards. However, the person in Canada can only use it when banks are open here. So, basically overnight. And it has a low withdraw limit (400$) but me thinks you can ask them to make it higher. Needless to say,
I guess its not so needless to say, so I'll say it: you'll need a Korean or a note from a Korean to get this done. |

Korea Exchange Bank has (or had, last year, when I opened my account with them) international ATM cards as well as Visa check cards. The former allows funds to be withdrawn overseas. The latter works like a Visa card and withdraws funds from one's account, rather than as a revolving credit; the catch is that it only works in Korea. Due to an odd administrative error, I have both.
My Shinhan card, on the other hand, is useless outside of Korea. |

I got an international debit card from Nonghyup in March of this year. I'll be trying it out next week in China...supposedly there's no withdrawal limit per transaction. |
