Okay, so I recently had to do a midnight run. It is a long story but here is the short version. My apartment was broken into, I had thousands of dollars stolen, as I had just withdrawn money from my account. My computer was stolen, my camera, ipod...everything. I filed a police report with my director but later found out that she had lied about some pretty important stuff ( such as who it was!!) while talking to the police because she had people working illegally at the school and she did not want the police to find out. I was pretty angry and so I left broke, stressed and betrayed. Now I am back in my home country and she is threatning legal action for breach of contract which required me to give 45 days notice and to payback my airfare. I left in the middle of the month so she owed me 1000.00 and she also has a 500.00 security deposit of mine. She can keep it! I just really wanted to get out of that school. My question is, legally, what can she do if I am already back in my home country? I know I can threaten her with the fact that she has people working there illegally and filed a false police report which resulted in the loss of thousands of dollars for me, but I really do not want to play those games.

If I were you, I'd go to efl-law.org. You may have to pay a $50 fee, but they are a good source.

From what I know (and I'm no expert), the school can't do anything if you are in your home country. I'm guessing you don't have any money in a Korean bank account. You may have problems if you return to Korea, but in your home country you should have nothing to worry about.

Can anyone else with more experience comment on this?

She can't do anything do you except piss in the wind and make stupic noises and hollow threats.

Tell her to piss off and take a leap into the next cesspool. Then find a new job at home and forget about your misfortune here.

This board is a terrible place to seek legal advice and I'm as terrible an advisor as any, but I can't imagine any way she could get at you without incurring terrible legal expenses herself. Seeing as she hires illegal workers, it seems she's pretty cheap. Just ignore her. (of course, if you want a real qualified answer, do what they said and go to efl-law.)

I'm sorry that Korea burned you. Sometimes all you can do is pull a midnight runner and it looks like you were in one of those situations. Hope you have better luck in home country.

the costs for her to pursue any claim against you would far outwiegh any return she might get.

Ignore her....if she continues to call you notify your phone company and they will block her number....if she emails....ignore or block

in other words....dont worry about it....although if you ever do return to Korea....dont let her know!
